At this time last year, ATI Performance was making waves with the launch of their new Turbo 400 SuperCase transmission which, when paired with thir previously released Outlaw Lockup torque converter, made for a knockout punch in the high horsepower drag racing world. Now, a year later, JC Beattie Jr. and the team at ATI are putting the finishing touches on what they started, delivering a complete driveline package, with the T-400 as the centerpiece.
ATI now offers a full compliment of components to build an Outlaw Turbo 400 setup, including large input shafts, drum, a full aluminum pump, and provisions in the case and valve body that ATI is making, making the entire assembly available direct from the Maryland-based manufacturer.
“Everything is in-house, and so now we can have a direct feed from the valve body through the case and the pump into the torque converter,” explains Beattie Jr. “This way, there’s no routing or O-ring sealing, it’s all a direct shot, which was important for the Turbo 400, because guys want to be able to lock and unlock or lock up multiple times.

“The Powerglide was quick, but not quick enough to lock it in low gear, unlock it, re-lock it, and go. The Turbo 400 is a little quicker on that process, so we’ve taken the same converters with the billet aluminum covers that are standard now, with titanium studs and bolts and building them as part of a 3,500 horsepower Lockup package.”
ATI’s Turbo 400 case sports two extra fittings for power. As Beattie Jr. explained to us, with a stock case, there was no way to create such a provision. When their case was designed, ATI left a space specifically for it. Likewise, the pump has been designed with room specifically for it.
“When you have the stock pump and everything, you have to use hoses and feed lines, whereas we’re now a direct shot to the converter, from the valve body pressure in the case, straight in the case, and out of the case right into the pump.” he went on to explain. “It’s almost like it was designed OEM for that instead of working off all the stock stuff.”
ATI is offering all of these Turbo 400 Lockup components, a first on the market, separately to their customers. The Turbo 400 Lockup case, pump, shaft, and drum can all be used in conjunction with a non-Lockup converter as well, if you co choose.
