If you’re reading this then you already know about Ford’s outstanding new turnkey drag car the 2016 Cobra Jet. This 8-second ET capable racecar is available for purchase from any Ford dealer that may have ordered one. While the nearly six-figure price tag may shock those not in the know, consider that building a reliable 8-second car, that can consistently perform and take the abuse of that level of drag racing, is an effort that will cost most enthusiasts at least that much money if not more.
Ford approached us in 2015 when they had come to a point in the Cobra Jet build where they were out of fuel, because the new Cobra Jet was making significantly more power than the previous generation. -Mike Deatsch, DeatschWerks
“Ford approached us in 2015 when they had come to a point in the Cobra Jet build where they were out of fuel, because the new Cobra Jet was making significantly more power than the previous generation,” says DeatschWerks’ Mike Deatsch. According to Deatsch, Whipple, the supercharger manufacturer for the Cobra Jet program, and also source injectors from DeatschWerks, recommended that Ford reach out to DeatschWerks to resolve its fueling needs.
It’s fantastic for DeatschWerks to not only be able to be the exclusive supplier for the Cobra Jet program for fuel injectors, but also to be able to offer those exact same injectors to our Mustang customers who are building their own cars. – Mike Deatsch, DeatschWerks
“A fuel injector can make the $35,000-plus engine in the Cobra Jet reliable, or a piece of scrap metal if it’s not compatible, or the right injector for the application. So Ford put these injectors through the same kind of testing that DeatschWerks already performs in-house on all its injectors. The five-point data testing, matching and balancing, were all done again at Ford. Ford discovered that the DeatschWerks injectors are what we say they are when we ship them.” What this means is that the DeatschWerks injectors perform as advertised out of the box, and engineers on the Cobra Jet program found they could rely on the DeatschWerks injectors to perform consistently.
DeatschWerks also provides its customers and tuners with the necessary calibration data to set-up and tune a car after installation, this data was likely also valuable and useful to Ford for the Cobra Jet validation program.
“It’s fantastic for DeatschWerks to not only be able to be the exclusive supplier for the Cobra Jet program for fuel injectors, but also to be able to offer those exact same injectors to our Mustang customers who are building their own cars,” says Deatsch.
All injectors offered by DeatschWerks undergo the company’s rigorous testing and validation process, whether they’re stock replacements or upgrades for higher horsepower applications.
