AFCO is a leader in the drag racing suspension industry and they know what racers need to go fast. To help those who use spindle mount struts, AFCO has developed a pair of new spindle mount drag racing struts that cover a wide range of cars. These new products will help save weight and make a car react better at the track.
The new strut integrates the spindle strut assembly allowing racers to save weight on their car according to AFCO’s Alan Wilber. “The whole piece weighs about as much as a factory strut. So what you end up saving on the front-end of the car is the entire weight of spindle on each side of the car. It’s a great way to get a nice high performance piece and still save weight on the car.”
The first version of this new strut is what AFCO calls their longer version that’s aimed towards 79-93 Fox- body Mustangs, SN95 Mustangs, and Camaros. “It’s a longer strut and has the twin-tube construction. It’s a universal piece that can be used either on the left or right side. There are Timken bearing kits available, and we also have brake kits available that fit our F33 four-piston brake caliper, and the F11 which is our two-piston caliper,” Wilber says.
The second version of the product is a shorter version aimed at more of the Pro Mod style cars. “This strut has a shorter stroke, but is still a 46mm mono-tube with a double-adjustable canister on it. This is unique to the market because there are some other products that have the mono-tube, but they don’t have the adjustable canister on them. This has the benefit of being ever lighter, it has a high-strength aluminum-alloy body that’s replaceable,” Wilber explains.
Both versions include the steering arm, all the mounting hardware required including the spindle nut kit, and will be available in Q1 or Q2 of 2017.
