Pushing the boundaries of torque converter technology has allowed drag racers to reach new levels of performance, and Neal Chance Racing Converters has been on the leading edge of this movement. The latest innovation from Neal Chance is their Flying Window Stator, an internal hard part that will add more tuning capabilities to any bolt together torque converter.

A torque converter gets all of its brainpower from the stator that lives at its core, the Flying Window Stator is a highly intelligent stator that lets the unit act as two different stators while still being one part. The Flying Window Stator is mechanical and has windows that open and close to let fluid through. When each of the windows are closed it lets the converter behaves like it’s in high stall mode, when the windows open up it moves into a low stall mode and increases efficiency.

Marty Chance from Neal Chance Racing Converters explains how the Flying Window Stator can help racers.

“So what you have is a torque converter when the windows are closed, and something close to fluid coupling device when the windows are open. What’s the advantage? Everybody wants the best of both worlds; they want to have more stall and less slippage out of their converter. That’s the concept behind this stator, to allow for more stall speed on the low end, and more efficiency up high out of the same stator.”

The Flying Window Stator will have several different options including different blade counts and blade angles. Currently, the Flying Window Stator is still in the testing phases and will be available later in 2019.
