SEMA 2022: A Weight Distribution Hitch That Changes Everything

B&W’s Continuum hitch is unlike anything ever offered in the towing industry.

When you hear someone talk about a weight-distribution hitch (WDH), do you get a look of confusion on your face? If you spend any time towing a tag-along/bumper-pull trailer, then you really need to consider one. While not a legal issue, having a weight-distributing hitch is all about safety, and the folks at B&W hitches have just revolutionized this style of hitch.

“Our Continuum Weight Distribution Hitch has been in development for nearly seven years,” says Eric Stewart of B&W. “While designing this weight-distribution hitch, we did not want to simply make a hitch that you normally see. We wanted a hitch that is different, easy to use, and allows you to make adjustments on the fly.”

When checking out this new hitch design, you have surely noticed the absence of the traditional “bars”. The B&W Continuum utilizes composite bars. While these bars attach to the truck and the trailer, just like a traditional setup, instead of chains and a piece of pipe to adjust the “load,” Continuum uses a closed hydraulic system to adjust the amount of pressure placed on the “bars”. The closed-loop hydraulics allow you to adjust the pressure exerted on the bars with ease. Need to add pressure, pump the cylinder. If you have too much, simply relieve some pressure on the cylinder.

If the composite bars concern you, forget about it. The material used is the same as found in many heavy-duty leaf spring applications. So, if you’re in the market for a new weight-distribution hitch, this one is reported to be on the market in mid-December. I don’t know about you, but I am anxious to get my hands on one to let you guys know how it works.
