For the better part of the past year, Jason Michalak’s blown C6 Corvette has held the world record for radial tire cars, most recently dropping the record to a stunning 3.81 — a mark most thought would stand for quite some time. Enter the always-outspoken ‘Stevie Fast’ Jackson and his Pro Nitrous Camaro. Jackson and his Killin’ Time Racing crew from Georgia slapped on some sticky Mickey Thompson radials, a set of Billet Atomizers’ new Pro Nitrous injectors, and trekked to Denton, Texas this past weekend, where North Star Dragway’s Gene Nicodemus and crew laid down some killer track prep for the baddest radial cars on the planet. Combining Jackson’s nitrous-huffing monster and NSD’s uber-tacky surface was all that was needed to send the record into a downward spiral.
Jackson opened the weekend in a tuner role with car owner Jeff Sitton planning to pilot the lightweight Camaro, but Jackson took over driving duties and set to work dismantling the field and the record books. Opening the weekend with a 3.80 in qualifying, Jackson sent the internet into hyper-drive with posts anticipating the first 3.7-second radial pass in history. He wasted little time in ramping up the chatter when he ripped off a 3.79 in the opening frame, shifting the buzz from “can he go .70’s” to “how deep into the .70’s can he go?”
Again, the wait was short, as round two brought yet another record run of 3.78, setting Jackson up with a final round date with the only other car to unseat the BAD9ER ‘Vette for the top spot recently, Rob Valden. Valden recently spent a week as the world record holder when he wheeled Andrew Alepa’s C7 Corvette to a 3.85. Kyle Huettel took over driving duties of the BAD9ER car following the untimely passing of Michalak’s father and promptly reclaimed the top spot the next weekend.
Valden and the Alepa crew tightened the screws on the twin turbo Hemi powering the ‘Vette and brought all they had to the finale, but Jackson was not to be defeated. In the final, the pair blasted to the quickest side-by-side pass in radial tire history, with Valden running the current second-quickest elapsed time in the radial world (by a racer other than Jackson), a 3.80, that fell to Jackson’s insane 3.75-second, record-busting elapsed time.

Being a grudge racer for many years has given Jackson both the gift of gab and the smarts to know what his car is capable of, and when to make that known. It’s hard to comprehend that just three short years ago, these cars were fighting to run 4.teens, and now there is a radial car in the 3.70’s and a handful in the 3.80 range. Do any of the turbo or blown cars have what it takes to unseat Stevie Fast from the top spot? Only time and traction will tell!
