For the first time, the ADRL will roll a global collection of factory supercars through the staging lanes in the “SuperCar Showdown” category, marking the first time that foreign and domestic competitors have raced alongside one another on the national event stage. Anyone will have the opportunity to take their globally manufactured “Super Car” (should they fit within the class regulations) down the quarter mile at ADRL national events and compete heads-up for a national title. The cars will be paired by weight rather horsepower ratings. Vehicles will remain in factory stock trim, and there will be no breakout. This means, in theory a Nissan GTR could possibly line up against a Cobra Jet Mustang, or a Ferrari 458 Italia could be paired with a ZR-1 Corvette. The excitement level is building with the ADRL and their fans and the stop light heroes will have a chance to find out which car is truly the baddest on the block.
Amid the heightened anticipation for this new class, ADRL officials have released the complete rules and regulations for the unique new category, which can be viewed at www.adrl.us/competition/rules.
“The ADRL has always been unique in its ability to operate without politics,” ADRL President McAmis explained. “We have grasped the opportunity to present what is truly twenty-first century drag racing on a National Championship level. The ADRL has always maintained close relationships with the major automobile manufacturers and we have worked hard to be able to help them achieve their goals with the Super Car Showdown while creating an entirely new era in drag racing.”
“The SuperCar Showdown will be a drag racing series unlike any other,” continued McAmis, “and the rules for the class are the result of exhaustive research and analysis of dozens of production car platform, engine and transmission combinations from more than seventy manufacturers. Our goal was to embrace not only current technology but the equipment now being designed which will change all of motorsports in the coming years.”
On Monday, the ADRL named 25-year old Jimmy Holzman of Wichita, Kansas the first Technical Director of this new class. Holzman has the knowledge of Supercars from around the world and he has the ability to understand current and future technology, along with a background in both building and driving race-winning cars. This made Holzman the absolute best choice for this new innovative new class.
The SuperCars will take the beams for the first time at the ADRL Dragpalooza VIII at Royal Purple Raceway in Houston on March 30-31. They are scheduled to be contested at all ten events.
