Well, after years of working extremely hard and having a great dedicated team with a single goal in mind They have done it! May 2nd, will always be the date that John Robinson and the entire Power Services crew can say they broke into the 6’s.
Over the winter, they had a ton of changes. The biggest change comes in the way of power. The car is now powered by a billet 5.9 Cummins that was built and designed by Scheid Diesel. While Robinson won’t release “official details” about the horsepower, the engine is capable of making well north of 2,000 horsepower. Even de-tuned, they are making more than 2k.
The Power Services crew finally got the entire rig up and running the first week of April. They took the car out and spent quite a bit of time working on getting the new configuration setup. Their official debut was at the NHRDA Texas Diesel Nationals on the 12th of April. While they were still working on dialing in the chassis, they managed to crack one off at 7.12 at 191.24 mph with their Funny Car body on. Being that they are still trying to get the bugs out, we knew they had a whole lot more in it.
Well, sure enough; on May 2nd they managed to run a 6.88 at 205 mph during the NHRA Lucas Oil Divisional race at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis Texas! To compete in the Top Dragster class, Robinson picked up a ’48 Fiat Topolino body. This was the setup they were running this weekend. They are planning on running both bodies throughout the year. So, depending on where you see these guys, will depend on whether they are running the Funny Car body or the Topolino body.
Either way, the entire crew at Power Services likes to put on a show. If you have time at the next event they are running at, stop by and say hi. These guys are just good ol’ boys and are happy to talk to everyone!
We here at Diesel Army want to say Congratulations to the entire Power Services crew and specifically to John Robinson for breaking into the 6’s. We have seen a lot of their hard work and determination over the years, but this team has continued to do things right and put their best foot forward.
