From their highly-publicized, nationally-televised auction in Scottsdale to Palm Beach, Reno, and even Las Vegas, the folks at Barrett-Jackson boast some of the greatest classic cars consignments in the world, and we’ve seen year in and year out, drag racing collectors cars are a consistent sight on the auction block at each of the company’s shows.
Back in February, we saw Rod Saboury’s incredible 1963 split-window Corvette Pro Street machine, as well as the legendary Snake & Mongoose Funny Cars and matching haulers hit the block, among a host of other straight-line vehicles, and at this weekend’s follow-up show at the South Florida Fairgrounds in Palm Beach, another awesome drag racing vehicle — this one constructed as a tribute car to the glory days of drag racing and the early years of Stock Eliminator racing — will find itself a new home.
This 1961 Ford Fairlane custom two-door post sedan with less than 35,000 original miles on the odometer, being offered at no reserve to the highest bidder, has been updated with rebuilt Ford “FE” 390 cubic inch big block powerplant with a four-speed manual transmission, a Ford Motorsports cam, full race headers, a 9-inch rear end housing Posi-traction, and a host of other goodies, all while maintaining a fully street-legal presence.
Of course then you have the incredible looks inside and out, having been given a fresh coat of ‘Cambridge Blue’ paint and been emblazoned with the “Parsons Ford” signage, and polished/chromed period-correct American Racing wheels. The virtually immaculate stock interior remains, full bench seat and all, with some add-on gauges completing the look.
As the Barrett-Jackson listing states, the car can be driven anywhere, any time, but we can’t imagine any better place for it than on the drag strip. Say, there’s still a place in Stock Eliminator for these old classics, isn’t there?
