Craigslist Find: 1976 Blown Camaro Capable Of 7-Flat ET’s – Or Not?

Sometimes Craigslist is a place to find hidden gems to purchase – there are always examples like the Sox and Martin ‘Cuda we uncovered back in October, or the HEMI ‘Cuda we found in September, but today’s find is about as much of a polar opposite to those legendary machines as we’ve seen in quite some time.

Listed as a “1976 Chevy Camaro Blown 540 Alcohol Fuel Injected – $30000“, we haven’t been able to figure out if the owner is joking about the car’s capabilities or not. He states that the car wears a set of Dark Pro 1 cylinder heads atop the Weber Racing-built 540. W have to assume those are Dart heads, since you can actually see them on the engine in the ad, and while they are certainly capable of that kind of power on the right combination, we’re not sure this is it.

It says the heads have oversized valves in them, which we have to assume is to suck down and process the immense eight pounds of boost that the 8:71 Hi-Helix blower is putting out. Eight pounds of boost, and he has dyno sheets showing 1,800 horsepower. That’s a virtual (really, virtual!) power number for a 540 engine with an 8-71 making only 8 pounds of boost on top – we’d bet the blower alone has to be sucking down at least a couple hundred crank horsepower just to get it moving, so we have a hard time believing the reported power numbers.

With a two-speed transmission and 8500 stall converter, the initial impression upon reading the ad is that this car’s going nowhere fast, especially at the price he has listed – or with the 588 Richman Race Gear Ratio that’s installed. No mention of the rearend housing.

There’s also an 18-point funny car cage front-and-center behind the sheetmetal dash, an electronic shifter (guess he needs that to keep both hands on the wheel) and 14×17.5 rear tires.

There is so much funny in this ad we can’t begin to fathom who wrote it and what kind of , ahem…things, they were on at the time. We’d be real curious to see the dyno sheets, and maybe a couple of timeslips.

We sure hope those are eighth-mile elapsed times, because nobody in their right mind would try to go 200+MPH in a car that looks like that…
