Funny Car Chaos Announces 2019 Championship Tour Schedule

Excitement and anticipation is building for funny car fans and racers as Funny Car Chaos announces its inaugural Championship tour dates for 2019! The new year will mark the debut of the Best of Texas BBQ Sauce Funny Car Chaos Championship series presented by Red Line Shirt Club. Riding momentum gained over the four event 2018 schedule, an expansion to seven events is on tap for the new year which means more funny cars and more chaos! Funny Car Chaos thundered into the drag racing scene with its unique ‘run whatcha’ brung’ competition format which welcomes any type of funny car regardless of engine combination or body style. With five events completed since the Fall of 2017, a total of fifty different drivers have entered and competed in Funny Car Chaos events spanning across the Southwest and Midwest from Texas to Illinois. It’s a concept that seems to have proved itself with the growing attendance of both racers and eager drag racing fans craving a fresh angle on funny car racing.

The expanded seven race series will include stops at all of the 2018 host tracks including North Star Dragway, Mo-Kan Dragway, Central Illinois Dragway and Amarillo Dragway. Added locations in 2019 include US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin, Michigan and Alamo City Motorplex outside San Antonio, Texas along with a new spring race at North Star Dragway in Denton, Texas. NSD, located just north of Dallas, Texas, will now host both the season opener and the championship finals for the series. The tour will kick off the final weekend of March and an inaugural Funny Car Chaos Champion will be crowned the last weekend of September.

Drag racing fans have shown massive support for this no holds barred two day extravaganza, which showcases funny cars of all kinds in an eighth mile heads up competition. It’s a modern outlaw twist on a classic dry hoppin’ funny car show with back up girls and throttle whackin’ burnouts. Every ticket is a pit pass at Funny Car Chaos and the teams love to interact with their growing fan base in the pits and get the crowd involved in the show with huge burnouts and ground pounding flip top action. The number one rule is have fun and the goal for Funny Car Chaos series director Chris Graves is to peg the fun meter, host safe competitive funny car racing and make it as affordable as possible for racers and fans alike.

“Sixteen months ago I had no idea what Funny Car Chaos may or may not become, but with the support of the racers and fans this series has become a reality and we are really looking forward to more events and adding the excitement of a points series in 2019. To have fifty funny car drivers believe in the concept and not only show up, but leave with big smiles and telling me ‘thank you for doing this’ keeps me motivated because they love it, we love it, the fans love it, so the Chaos shall continue! Marketing partners like Best of Texas BBQ Sauce and Red Line Shirt Club have supported us since the beginning and without them we certainly wouldn’t be at the point we are today. This is go fast, grass roots, funny car drag racing and it rocks! I want to thank our sponsors and each and every driver, crew member, media representative and all the fun loving funny car fans for their support and we hope to see you again soon in 2019,” said Graves.

With the new points series comes a standardization of the event format and points structure. All events on the tour will qualify the quickest sixteen cars. Those cars will then be divided into two fields (A and B) of eight, and then run in a three round elimination ladder. Points will be awarded equally in both fields allowing for any racer, regardless of his qualifying field, to have a fair shot finishing in the top five at the end of the season. Points will be awarded to the driver and each driver will count the best six of their seven totals to determine their final total.

Each event hosts a $25,000 payout including all sixteen qualified spots and tow money for the first two alternates. The ‘A’ field will pay $5,000 to win and ‘B’ field will pay $3,000 to win. The Best of Texas BBQ Sauce Championship will award the top five points finishers and the Champion will claim the ultimate bragging rights and $5,000 for their accomplishment. The new season is shaping up to be highly competitive for Funny Car Chaos racers from Texas to Michigan and everywhere in between. Spy shots are pouring into Funny Car Chaos headquarters as racers see a potential new home for their drag racing efforts where fun is the number one rule and entertainment is a top priority. A massive thirty car field capped off a growth filled 2018 season and with that trend expected to continue, the sky is the limit for the new season of Funny Car Chaos competition and entertainment.
