My local Ford dealer has a White Super Cobra Jet in the showroom and I’ve seen it a few times. And I’ve have always wondered what it would be like to race an eight-second factory drag car. Alas, I will never find out first hand because the cars are rare and I’m not the rich sort that can plunk down the cash for my own. Ford Racing runs the single-make Cobra Jet Showdown and we found a couple videos that are very interesting to watch.
I always figured that an eight-second run in a drag car would be wild and riddled with jostles, bumps and a breath-taking experience in general. And while I’m sure that actually being behind the wheel of a Cobra Jet is a drastically different experience than watching these videos, I am shocked at how non-dramatic these two passes are.
The first video is of a Grabber Blue Super Cobra Jet with a 4-liter blower and turned in a high eight-second run (we don’t have the exact time). The second video is an identical car in white. The first thing you’ll notice is that the inside of the car looks a lot like a 2012 off the showroom floor. Also, while the Grabber Blue CJ is out racing, the owner still has the little protective square on the steering wheel pony. Check to the videos below and see what you think. Did you expect a high eight-second run to be so laid back?
