Making the big leap from a single plate nitrous system to a single 88MM turbo is hardly easy, but Marcus Landeros knew it was needed to keep up in the race to the top of the West Texas True Ten Five ladders. While his first major change was to a 80MM 355 SBC in early 2009, Landeros is stepping his game up yet again for the latter half of 2010, updating his cage to 25.5 spec, along with a host of other changes, the most significant of which being a step up in the boost department with an 88MM setup.
For a real close-up look at what his latest changes have rendered, checkout some of his latest testing video below – the best pass to date is a 5.49 at 132 mph whilst battling front suspension gremlins.
Landeros’ secrets to success lie within an old-school Cal-trac setup with mono leafs and Afco shocks out back. In hopes of reeling in their front end issues Marcus is tightening up the front springs a bit to see if it’ll solve their issues. In the engine department Landeros runs a 360 C.I. SBC with a DART block, Dart PRO 1 heads, Comp custom cam and a CSU blow-thru carburetor. In ideal conditions, rough estimates put this powerplant over the big 1000 horsepower hash-mark. All of this of course, being fed through a 28×10.5″ tire true to the series’ name.
If Landeros can keep a hold on his sweet orange ’69, he’ll be a force to be reckoned with at the next WTTTF race this upcoming August 21st. Marcus would also like to give a shout out to his sponsors, West Texas Race Craft and McIntosh Transmissions for making his continued racing efforts possible. Will Landeros be able to scoop up his second win of 2010, gaining momentum to finish off the ’10 season with a bang?
