If you grew up watching your dad race, there’s a good chance you dreamed about driving the family racecar someday. Adrian Sach saw his father Scott set plenty of records behind the wheel of his turbocharged Suzuki Alto, so when the time came for him to jump behind the wheel he was more than ready.

The Suzuki Alto that Adrian races is an interesting vehicle — the Alto is a microcar that Suzuki released to be a commercial vehicle with great fuel economy. Most of the Alto’s produced rolled off the assembly line with an engine that was below 1,000cc’s and was never designed to be used in a racing environment.

Adrian’s Alto has been heavily modified so it would work at the dragstrip. The Suzuki features a full tubular chassis that keeps Adrian safe and helps the car run deep into the 8-second zone. The Alto is now powered by a 2.6-liter Mitsubishi 4G54 engine that uses mechanical injection, feeds on methanol for fuel, and is backed by a Powerglide transmission. Adrian has run a personal best of 8.77 in the Alto…that’s flying for such a small displacement engine.

You can find Adrian and his Alto making laps at Palmyra Dragway in Queensland, Australia. IMPORT Media was at the track and captured some great footage of Adrian running the Alto — the cool thing about this pocket rocket is just how consistent it is, and Adrian does a great job of driving the car.
