Updated: No Prep Kings, ADRL, Others Postpone Due To Coronavirus

Just hours after the National Hot Rod Association, complying with the recommendations of the Florida state Governor, postponed the annual Gatornationals due to concerns over the spread of the Coronavirus, two other organizations have followed suit.

Street Outlaws: No Prep Kings, set to hold its season four opener this weekend at Tucson Dragway in Arizona, announced this afternoon that it has postponed the event unit July 31st, noting in its statement: “with an overabundance of caution due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19), we are moving the Tucson No Prep Kings event to July 31. All other races are staying on schedule.”

Auto Club Famoso Raceway in Bakersfield, California, fresh off of hosting its annual March Meet nostalgia drag race, also announced today that in complying with orders from state leaders, it will cease racing activities until April.

Said the track management team in a statement: “Effective immediately Auto Club Famoso Raceway is suspending scheduled racing events for the month of March due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus. This decision was made following the recommendations from state and local authorities to not hold events with groups of 250 or more people Please look for updates to our schedule page concerning future events scheduled to be held at the raceway and the possibility of makeup dates for those events that are being affected by this decision. We will update all parties concerned as more information, or recommendations, come forward from the proper authorities.”

The American Drag Racing League also postponed its season-opening Gateway Drags in St. Louis.

With state representatives across the nation halting gatherings numbering more than 250 until further notice, other drag racing events are likely to be postponed or cancelled in the coming days.

3/13: TX2K20, being held at Texas’ Houston Raceway Park, has also adjusted its racing schedule and will continue without ticketed spectators for the remainder of the weekend. TX2K personnel stated:

“After careful consideration followed by multiple discussions with government officials regarding the growing COVID-19 pandemic and in the interest of public health and safety, TX2K and Houston Raceway Park have made the difficult decision to proceed with the remainder of TX2K20 without spectators. TX2K20 will be restricted to credentialed racers, sponsors, crew, media, VIP, and track officials as well as other necessary personnel to conduct the race. Fans who purchased TX2K20 tickets to attend Friday through Sunday will be able to use the value of their ticket towards TX2K21 next spring at Houston Raceway Park.

“TX2K20 will end the event on Saturday evening with no racing on Sunday, March 15th. We appreciate your continued support of TX2K.”
