Ordering Launches For 8-Second 50th Anniversary Cobra Jet

If you have been sitting on the two-step with your foot to the floor waiting to order a 50th Anniversary Cobra Jet, you can let go of the button and head for your local Ford dealer. Ford Performance is now accepting orders for the 2018 Cobra Jet, which is projected to run 8-second quarter-mile e.t.’s at over 150 MPH.

“From the very first Mustang Cobra Jets dominating the 1968 NHRA Winternationals to our modern-day Cobra Jet racers, the Ford Performance Parts team continues to build the Cobra Jet brand based on its success at the track over five decades,” Eric Cin, global director, Ford Performance Parts, said when the car was announced. “That, in turn, has inspired generations of Mustang fans to create their own performance machines for the street.”

To commemorate the Cobra Jet’s start in 1968, only 68 units of the 2018 Cobra Jet will be produced. Powered by a supercharged 5.2-liter Coyote engine, these turnkey, factory-prepped drag racers won’t be complicated to order, because there are few options. You can chose between Oxford White or Race Red paint and whether or not you’ll order the optional 50th anniversary graphics package and anniversary badging (and who wouldn’t?).

2018 Cobra Jet Features

• 50th anniversary badging

• Drag race-specific coil-over suspension

• Four-link rear suspension

• NHRA-certified roll cage

• Optional commemorative 50th anniversary graphics package

• Oxford White or Race Red paint

• Racetech FIA seats

• Strange Engineering 9-inch solid rear axle

• Supercharged 5.2-liter Coyote V8

• Weld Racing wheels with specially designed 50th anniversary badging

If these rare racers actually make it to the drag strip, they will be legal in National Hot Rod Association drag racing, as well as National Mustang Racers Association and National Muscle Car Association classes.
