The bunkhouse-style motorhome has been a very popular layout for many manufacturers and dealers alike.  Alan Cape, President of Flying A Motorsports, explains the popularity from a utilitarian standpoint.

“Customers want the quality and amenities of a good pedigree hauler such as this NRC Modifications-built unit,” Cape says. “This 35-foot rig only has about 26,000-miles on the odometer, so it hasn’t even been driven out of the drivetrain break-in period for most of the Freightliner Cascadia components yet.”

The drivetrain consist of a Cummins powerplant rated at 600-horsepower followed by an ultra-shift manual transmission and tandem rear axles to handle anything it’s pulling. With a traditional bedroom in the rear and dining/living room area near the cab, many manufacturers are building variations of this layout on a constant basis.

“Similar to the Renegade bunk bed unit recently featured, the NRC motorhome has a bunk bed layout,” Cape adds. “These beds slide-out for comfort in the mid-section of the motorhome. Unlike other manufacturers, NRC uses a heavy .063-inch aluminum wall and rivet construction compared to others using fiberglass reinforced panels (FRP) as sidewalls.”

The NRC slide-out features differentiate themselves from other manufacturers, as well. A five-slideout floorplan with their bunkhouse models compares to many other brands that utilize a three-slide design. With this NRC rig, the driver’s side has independent slides for the living, bathroom, and bedroom area while the other side has slides for the kitchen and bedroom areas.

“It’s really a matter of taste,” Cape says. “Some owners like the three-slide layout, while others like the ability to operate the five-slide system independently as they need them.”

Other amenities include two full bathrooms, three 15,000-BTU roof-mount air conditioner units, and a 12.5-KW Onan Quiet Diesel generator.

This model features a floor giving the appearance of wood but made of ceramic material for durability. There are granite countertops and a stainless steel sink in the kitchen area along with a tile backsplash.

NRC uses a selection of high-quality hardware within its construction. Appliances are all stainless steel and are listed as a two-burner electric cooktop, a convection microwave, and a 17-cubic-foot residential refrigerator and freezer with ice maker.

On the entertainment side, there is an in-motion satellite with DirecTV receivers, a 32-inch-television for the bunk bed area and a 43-inch LED TV, Blu Ray player and surround-sound system in each bedroom and living areas.

Two 16-foot Apex electric awnings are rooftop-mounted. These awnings clear the extensive slide-out systems on both sides of the living quarters. There are also 12-access doors to get you into the wealth of saddle storage on each side.

NRC’s unique slide-out interior features five slide-outs compared to the typical three by other conversion companies. NRC also features heavy aluminum sidewall and riveted construction which is why the brand has brand has a strong customer following.

“These units typically do not last long on the sales lot,” Cape comments. “Their materials used are first-class. Even details down to what I call their “Las-Vegas lighting,” combined with dark wood cabinetry, quartz trim, and mirrored walls and ceilings throughout the interior are very nice.”
