The best no-prep racers all gathering in Tulsa, Oklahoma for a huge $25,000-to-win Cash Days event on the streets, sounds like your typical big-money drag race right?
This race, though, didn’t feature the smells of tire-smoke or gasoline, or the sounds of turbos spooling up, because it showcased 500 of the fastest no-prep remote-controlled (R/C) cars in the world. That’s right, a $25,000-to-win R/C car no-prep drag race, and 1320Video captured all of the madness.
No-prep R/C car racing has exponentially grown in popularity thanks to the realistic look of the cars and the fun-to-dollars spent ratio. The cars are 1/10th the size of a real car and race 132 feet, or 1/10th of 1320 feet. These pocket-sized beasts can reach speeds of 80 MPH in that distance and are a handful to control. The racers even do burnouts to try getting the most traction possible, just like their full-size counterparts.
The major R/C car manufactures have jumped into this form of racing with both feet. You can purchase ready-to-run R/C drag cars and then modify them just like a real racecar. There are classes for different motors, battery types, outlaw-style classes, and budget-friendly classes, just like real drag racing. The electronics in the cars can even be tuned like a real car, so a racer can manage the power they’re trying to put down to the surface of the track.
The crew from 1320Video did a great job capturing the excitement of this event as the racers battled it out all day and night. The racing gets better as the rounds winds down and the competition gets tighter. Check out the full video to see how close the racing is and the fat stacks of cash these racers won.
