Texas Two Step: George Dodworth Looks To Improve At TX2K20

The annual TX2K events have a diehard following of fans and racers who set their entire calendar around the race, and among them are George Dodworth and his wife, Christine. This husband and wife race team are looking to create more great memories and have a big weekend of racing at TX2K20.

Last year at TX2K, the Dodworth’s had a successful outing against some tough competition. Christine beat some of the fastest cars in the world on her way to winning the Unlimited Class in the Roll Race Nationals portion of the event, and George made it all the way to the semifinal round of the Unlimited GTR class behind the wheel of his “Nightfury” Nissan.

George and Christine have made many improvements to each of their GTRs heading into this year’s edition of TX2K. They spend the time between events making as many upgrades as possible so they’re ready for big races like this.

“Christine’s car now has the Extreme Turbo Systems Pro68 kit using the new Xona Rotor 68mm setup.  That system is capable of producing well over 2,000 horsepower, perhaps 2,100 to 2,150 all in. It’s running a mechanical fuel pump and methanol to 12 Injector Dynamics 2600 injectors. My Nightfury GTR was stripped to the frame and re-assembled over the winter, including a full 25.3 cage from Brinks. The 3.8-liter engine came out and a beautiful AMS Billet 4.3-liter engine was assembled by Brandon Jackson and installed. The other big change was the addition of some 7685 turbos in place of the 7675’s — still in the stock location, and custom fabricated by Wade Hill at T1 using the ETS Pro2300 kit,” George says.

Making all of these upgrades to each car wasn’t done just to spend money, but with the goal in mind of going faster at TX2K. Christine’s car should once again be a contender to win the Unlimited roll racing class with the extra horsepower it now has. For George, it’s all about turning Nightfury up even more and laying down a personal best pass.

“At the GT-R World Cup, our first full pass was a 6.942, followed by a 6.89, 6.84, and finally a 6.725 at 218.27 mph. Each pass we turned it up only slightly based on what we learned from the prior passes. At TX2K20, we’re hoping that with Jason Miller on prep and some good density altitude we can get back to our prior power levels and then keep turning it up to see what is possible. I’d love to see pass in the 6.50s, and anything greater than 220 mph, but let me make it clear, that is not a bad luck prediction, just a wish,” George says.

TX2K is more than just an event for George and his wife, it provides an experience that can’t be replicated anywhere else. They appreciate what TX2K promoter Peter Blach has created with the event and that’s why it will always be on their racing schedule.

“I’m most excited to get back to TX2K because of the environment, the level of competitors, and the audience it attracts. It’s amazing how each event has a different personality, but we can still love each event and appreciate those differences. You don’t have to be a racer to know about TX2K, and there is an attraction to see these amazing high-powered cars of which many are still driven on the street,” George explains.

If you want to see the fastest street cars in the world at one event, you’ll want to check out TX2K20. Houston Raceway Park is the place to be March 11-15 and SpeedVideo will be there capturing all the action live.
