The JEGS SPORTSnationals Nationals Moves To SGMP

NHRA Sportsman racers received exciting news regarding one of the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series’ premier events. The historic JEGS NHRA SPORTSnationals has a new home starting in 2025, moving south and expanding into a larger four-day racing spectacle as part of a renewed partnership between NHRA and JEGS Performance.

Officials announced the tradition-rich SPORTSnationals will relocate to South Georgia Motorsports Park (SGMP) in Valdosta, Georgia. The move creates a massive mid-summer event dubbed “JEGS SPEEDweek.”

The new format features the JEGS SPORTSnationals running Wednesday and Thursday, July 9-10, 2025, leading directly into a subsequent Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series competition on Friday and Saturday, July 11-12, effectively creating a four-day doubleheader for competitors.

The change of events coincides with NHRA and JEGS announcing a multi-year extension of their partnership for the SPORTSnationals, securing the event through the 2028 season. JEGS, set to celebrate its 65th anniversary in 2025, continues its deep commitment to sportsman drag racing.

“Extending our partnership reinforces our dedication to the future of motorsports,” stated JEGS CEO Gabe Mendoza. The company plans a strong presence during the SPEEDweek event.

The expanded format and new location aim to create one of the largest sportsman racing weekends of the year, expected to draw hundreds of competitors from across all seven NHRA divisions. Racers will compete for significant prize money and unique trophies, including the coveted copper JEGS-branded Wally awarded to SPORTSnationals winners. The elusive JEGS Crown trophy will still be available to any driver who manages to double-up by winning events two consecutive years.

The racing action kicks off Wednesday, July 9, with a special racer appreciation breakfast hosted by SGMP and NHRA staff, followed immediately by Stock and Super Stock class eliminations and additional shootout competitions.

SGMP Owner Raul Torres welcomed the prestigious event, saying, “It is a great opportunity for our staff to become a part of such a recognized and distinguished race.” NHRA Vice President Brad Gerber echoed the enthusiasm, praising the JEGS relationship and expressing confidence in SGMP delivering a great experience for racers.

This move south to Valdosta and the expansion into a four-day doubleheader promises a major destination event for NHRA sportsman racers. The revamped JEGS SPEEDweek is considered to be a must-attend event that combines national event prestige with intense divisional competition at South Georgia Motorsports Park.
