Throwback Thursday: Hemi Under Glass Reimagined With Demon

Dodge has become known for its unapologetic, no-nonsense purpose-built modern muscle cars. Whether it be a Demon, Hellcat, or of the Skat Pack variety, both Charger and Challenger are poised to make noise, burn rubber, and get down the drag strip faster than your friends.

Dodge has done an excellent job preserving the spirit of the first generation cars, but one thing the automaker has yet to really address is the original Hemi Under Glass.

The Hemi Under Glass was built to show off and look cool – because who doesn’t want to do that? Based on a Plymouth Barracuda, the Hemi Under Glass was created by Hurst Performance as an exhibition car.

What made the car so unique was its extremely odd engine placement. Hurst strategically placed the Chrysler-derived 7.0-liter Hemi V8 over the rear axle and under the large rear window the Barracudas were known for.

Abimelec Design decided to pay homage to perhaps the best American show car and took to Facebook to share this rendering of a Dodge Demon-powered Challenger Hellcat dressed to resemble the old-school Hurst Hemi Under Glass ‘Cuda.

The post reads:

“One of my favorite modified cars of all time is the Hurst ‘HEMI Under Glass’ Plymouth Barracuda. A car built exclusively for showing off, making noise and amaze the crowds. In my opinion, cars don’t get much cooler than that. Anyhow, lts been a while since the original Hurst ‘Cuda so I thought I would bring it back to life, with a Demon engine and Challenger body. Yes thats a rear hatch, too! Originally I was just going to replace the rear seats with an engine, but then you wouldn’t be able to see the chromed supercharger, wouldn’t you? And remember, it’s all about the show!”
