Video: Home-Built, LSX-Powered Holden Runs 8’s

Building your own race car is pretty rewarding, but when you’re able to build a single digit monster that still retains the stock interior, suspension, and column shifter, that’s amazing. The married duo of Mark and Raelene Drew have built an eight-second LSX-swapped Holden HR Premier that looks extra tame, but this car is a real brute on the track. The boosted home-build beast leaves wheels up and pulls hard at the top end.

Under the hood of this Holden is a 403 cubic inch LSX iron block, with a Callies rotating assembly and a set of CP forged pistons. A hydraulic roller cam and stock cathedral port heads along with a customer intake highlight the top end of the mill. The custom turbo kit helps move the boost produced by the BorgWarner S400SX turbo that pumps out about 19 pounds of boost. The Powerglide transmission and Dominator stall converter take their orders from Mark Drew as he shifts the gears on the column.

Holden 4-2With all of these top shelf parts it shouldn’t be shocking at all that this Holden is as quick as it is, running a best of 8.76 at 160 mph. In this video from FullBoost, you get a real feel for just how brutal, yet smooth this car is when it leaves wheels-up and plants those radial tires hard. The in-car shots show Drew banging the gears on the column during his eight-second passes like he’s just accelerating on the freeway.
