Getting something as massive as an LY6 into the engine bay of a Mitsubishi Eclipse is already a daunting enough task, but getting this vehicle to propel forward across a quarter-mile patch of asphalt at speed without blowing up is probably a lot more frightening. Fearless owner and builder Jeremy Hoskins didn’t see things that way, however.

YouTube personality BigKleib34 (LSXMag fans know him as frequent contributor Jesse Kleiber) was on hand at the Holley LS Fest in Bowling Green, Kentucky to shoot video of this Japanese-American creation. He documented every sweet angle of this car, starting with the main event.

“It’s a 370 cubic-inch iron block with LS3 heads and intake, [as well as] stock injectors from an LS3” reports Hoskins. The throttle body is a 92mm Nick Williams model, letting in great big gulps of air to keep the engine chugging.

Also hooked up to the Eclipse is a nitrous oxide kit, the make of which is unclear, but it’s capable of delivering up to 200 horsepower. On a 150 shot, the car sees 10.20s, so anything above that puts the car very close to 9-second territory. Hoskins admits to having never put the Eclipse on the dyno, but given the drag strip performance we see later on in the video, it’s easy to see that this thing is no slouch.

We get to watch the car firsthand starting at the 1:30 mark, as Hoskins starts the first of three passes seen in the clip. He zips by and snags a time of 10.521 seconds at 119.30 miles per hour; the second time, 10.092 seconds at 132.41 miles per hour; and finally, 9.702 seconds at 138.41 miles per hour.

It’s too bad knowing that he broke out at that last pass, but at least he can go home knowing his car is that capable of high-performance demand.
