NHRA Pro Modified rookie Mason Wright was unhurt Friday evening in a top-end crash during qualifying for the Gerber Collision & Glass NHRA Route 66 NHRA Nationals presented by PEAK Performance at Route 66 Raceway in Joliet, Illinois.

The former Top Sportsman standout, who made a move to the Pro Mod ranks this season s part of the Elite Motorsports team, lost control of his supercharged Chevrolet Camaro near the 1,000-foot mark on his opening qualifying shot and crossed the centerline, striking the wall and turning onto his roof. The Camaro slid to a halt on its top, and the damage — relatively speaking, for a crash well in excess of 200 mph — appeared to be significant. The Odessa, Texas resident climbed from the car under his own power, and was met at the scene by opponent Lyle Barnett, who rushed to Wright’s aid on foot alongside the Safety Safari.
