Ever find yourself in a flight of fancy when it comes to cars? Admit it, we’ve all thought of doing some pretty weird stuff to cars, and some of us have had the guts to follow through on a whim or two – combining two chassis together, trying out a crazy paint job, or taking the vehicle where it has no business being, if just for the sake of fun and intrigue.
This last notion was the driving one for what we have for you today. Presented by the tool manufacturer Snap-On, this oddball adventure pits two icons of their respective motorsports (Bryce Menzies of off-road racing, and Cruz Pedragon of drag racing) in a battle that made us exclaim as much as it made us laugh.
In what looks like it could be a series to follow, this “Seat Swap”, as Snap-On calls it, was shot at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s drag strip. Let’s see what all happened at this on-road showdown.
After some seat time in each other’s vehicles – Menzies takes a comp dragster, Pedregon pilots a Pro 4 – the two men learn to respect the challenges faced in each motorsport. Then it’s down to brass tacks: trophy truck versus drag car!
It’s hard to predict what will happen out there on the track, but the odds are on Pedregon, obviously. The long, narrow asphalt is the funny car’s home turf, and as such the trophy truck, despite its 900+ horsepower, will need a bit of a handicap to make things fair.
The tree lights up and Menzies takes off. He’s given six seconds before Pedregon gets his green, and then the race is on! What seems to take Menzies an eternity to do at 100 mph, Pedregon completes almost instantly as he jets across at more than double the speed. It’s a hands-down victory for the drag car in this particular case.
But we had to wonder, just for the sake of curiosity: How would the funny car do around the short course? Yours truly posed the question as a comment on Snap-On’s Facebook upload, and Pedregon himself answered: “Heck, why not lol”. If this isn’t a green light to go ahead and start production on the next episode of Seat Swap, we don’t know what is.
If Pedregon is game, then we don’t see why this couldn’t happen. What about you? Wouldn’t you like to see a drag car blitz around a short-course track?
