Video: Pro Stock Racer Deric Kramer’s Scary Rollover Crash In Vegas

The weekend of racing that was certainly had its share of destruction, which wasn’t just limited to the two brutal incidents at the OKC No Prep Shootout that we shared yesterday, as part-time Pro Stock racer Deric Kramer also went for a hell of a ride during qualifying at the Toyota NHRA Nationals in Las Vegas on Saturday afternoon. The incident, which came during the final session of qualifying, did considerable damage to Kramers’ Dodge Avenger-bodied machine after it turned side-over-side four and half times.

kramer2Kramer, who at the time was outside the show in 18th with a best pass of just 8.98-seconds to his credit, was alongside Aaron Stanfield in the final session when his American Ethanol-sponsored Dodge drifted out of the groove toward the wall very early in the run. Kramer tried to save the run as the car wiggled and danced along the edge of the groove, but appeared to have finally thrown in the towel and pushed in the clutch just beyond the half-track mark. At that point. however, the car was already in full-on-handful mode, and Kramer was unable to collect it up despite his valiant efforts, as the car took an immediate left hand turn after the scoreboards and turned onto its roof.

After a pair of hard barrel rolls, the Avenger struck the concrete guardrail nose-first, then ricocheted off the wall and tumbled nearly three more times, finally coming to a stop shiny-side-down. The 28-year old Colorado native was quickly out of the battered race car under his own power and checked out without any serious injuries. The same, however, couldn’t be said for his race car, and no doubt it will be a challenge for a lower budget part-time team like Kramer’s to recover from such a devastating crash.

For those keeping score, Kramer actually carded his best run of the weekend on the ill-fated pass, lighting up the boards with a 7.30 at 161 mph.
