Video: ProCharger i-1 In Action

At the 2012 SEMA show we got our first look at the revolutionary ProCharger i-1. We don’t use the word revolutionary lightly either. Simply put the i-1 is the first programmable supercharger. This centrifugal supercharger uses a transmission to vary the output based on user programmable input. We outlined the i-1 a few months back, but in a nutshell this type of drive system means that owners can bring the boost in early at low RPM and maintain the same boost level all the way to the redline or shift point without falling off.

So how much power does the i-1 make? At just 7.5 psi on a stock Coyote equipped Mustang, or a LS3 powered Camaro it boosts power by 200 hp. Those are some impressive numbers at what most would consider relatively sane levels of boost. Add to that the i-1 can supply as much as 20 psi, to a well built engine, supporting as much as 900 hp. As you can see this supercharger has the street and much of the race crowd covered with versatility to do either type of work.

There are no pulleys to change, an optional touchscreen controller allows drivers to switch between programs, allowing drivers to setup a street or touring mode for better fuel economy, and quickly switch to sport, competition, or a custom mode for more spirited driving scenarios.

ProCharger recently released a new video, which is one of the best ads for a performance part we’ve seen in a while. The video shows a new Coyote Mustang squaring off against a new Camaro, both equipped with the i-1. It details the advantages of the i-1 as well. The video goes on to show other applications that the i-1 is or will soon be available for as well, including the BOSS 302, SRT8 Challenger, the LS3 and Z06 Corvette, and the SVT Ford Raptor pickup.

We’re anxious to put one of these revolutionary new superchargers to the test at Power Automedia headquarters. Until then enjoy the video, and checkout the ProCharger web-site for more info on the i-1.
