We said that the Z06 Stingray equipped with the 8-speed automatic was going to be brutally quick at the dragstrip after we got a chance to drive the 8L90-equipped Z51. We didn’t know it was going to be this quick, though… In the video above, we get to see a purportedly bone-stock-down-to-the-tires 2015 Corvette Z06 make a pass at Atco, and when the scoreboards flash at the end of the run, the numbers are astounding. How does 10.42 at 132.68 MPH sound?
We’ve previously seen what appears to be this same car run 10.38 on drag radials, trapping 131.47, so it seems that thrifty Z06 owners who don’t want to pony up the better part of a grand for a set of wheels, drag radials, and skinnies really aren’t leaving much on the table in terms of performance. It helps (a LOT) that the Corvette engineering team has put a lot of work into the launch control system that’s baked into these cars, maximizing every available quanta of traction. Trust the computer, and it will make you look like a hero…
The Z06 in this video leaves the line without even a chirp from the tires, with zero drama, and simply hauls ass all the way down-track. It seems pretty clear that Z06 owners have nothing to fear from the likes of Dodge’s Hellcat Challenger, even if the big cat is on drag radials and the Corvette “only” has the stock rubber. And it also means that the Hellcat Charger is soon to be an also-ran compared to the LT4-powered 2016 CTS-V.
