Much has been written about Kentucky’s Willard Kinzer, even right here on this very site, and the 84-year-old Kentucky native has backed up all of it. Taking the wheel of a 2500-plus horsepower car is not a task for the weak, and Kinzer has shown just how strong he is behind the wheel of his Mustang over the last couple of years. The octogenarian has performed at a high level and impressed everyone with his down-to-earth nature and love for the sport of drag racing.
At SCSN 8, Kinzer rocketed to the top of the qualifying ladder in the Xtreme Drag Radial class with a 6.733 at 230 MPH, but that’s not all. His best ET of the weekend was an awesome 6.588 while his top speed was 235.76 MPH. That’s on a 315-wide drag radial, folks – just twenty-four inches of tread on the ground sticking 2500 horsepower to the pavement at almost one-third the speed of sound. The video highlights all of Willard’s exploits over the course of the weekend, from test-and-tune through the second round of eliminations, as he continued to run well prior to an off-the-gas semifinal loss to eventual runner-up Dave Bowman. The Mustang sports a 532-cubic inch engine from Hans Feustel in Texas and is tuned to these incredible elapsed times by Jason Lee and Patrick Barnhill from Part Time Performance.
You get to listen to a bit of the legendary Al Tucci on the mic and watch big-block Chevy twin-turbo horsepower screaming downtrack, some in slo-mo. Check out how quickly he out-accelerates some of the competition. This is five minutes of your life that you won’t regret.
