Friday Testing and Qualifying Coverage

In Pro Extreme Motorcycle Derrick Holloway, above is slotted in at number 10. The class is lead by Ashley Owens with a new world record ET of 4.145. Defending Belt Champion Scott Gray is close behind in second with a 4.173 @172.61mph.

John MonteCalvo and his Cevy Cobalt are at number 3 with a 4.085 @178.78mph. Number one at the end of the day went to Cary Golforth with a 4.048 with a new world record speed of 179.04mph. Last years event winner Brian Gahm is in second with a smooth 4.077 @177.72.

In the Flowmaster Extreme 10.5 catagory the big stiry of the day was Turbo Todd Moyer of Pasadena, Texas. Moyer became the third member of the Mickey Thompson Tires 3 second club running a 3.968 @ 195.22. Spiro Pappas is still on point from his first run of the day. Pappas couldn't get hooked up in the 2 succeeding attempts. There are only 14 entries in the event and number 14 is held by local racer Wayne Long at 7.261 @ 121.20mph.

Pro Nitrous has the potential to also have a new world speed record set. Both Burton Axier and Jim Halsey can accomplish the feet with backup runs. Axier is in with a 3.830 @ 197.91mph and Halsey can claim the fastest speed ever for the class with a 3.883 @ 198.99. Tricky Rickie Smith, Pictured, is in at number 6 with a 3.952 @191.65.

The run of the day in Pro Extreme has to belong to Houston, Texas racer Chris Smith in his 63 split window Vette. The only run he made all day was the in third and final session and was the first utilizing a screw blower. Smith laid down a nice and smooth 4.036 @ 168.47mph. Josh Hernandez is still atop the class and Alex Hossler still needs a back up run to establish a new world speed record. Hossler currenty has a 212.19mph run.

Friday morning is here and it is a chamber of commerce day at Houston Raceway Park for the ADRL UTI Dragpalooza VI Event. The pits are packed and action is ready to start.

Jason Hamstra's new Garret Race Cars Pro Extreme entry sporting new paint. The car tested with strong 3.7 ET's and will be a major contender for the season long Speed Tech Battle for the belts.

Billy Glidden's new Mustang Extreme 10.5 entry is sporting new Mickey Thompson colors and is stuffed full of Ford Horsepower.

Spiro Pappas fired the first real shot of the day in the 10.5 class. He came off the trailer with a pace setting 3.92 @195.22mph.

In Pro Nitrous Burton Auxier came out in round one and set the front end of national speed mark with a fine 3.83 @197.91mph.

Alex Hossler continued the torrid pace he has been setting as of late in Qatar and the U.S.. His first shot at the Baytown track he laid down a 3.79 second unearthly 212.19mph shot. The track is heating up as the sun beats down. Round 2 is about to get going.
