SELECT COVERAGE BY DAY:
- Here in Bradenton the weather is just about perfect with a slight breeze and plenty of sun with temps in the low 70’s. The heads up qualifying is set to begin around 2 PM after the bracket time trials.
- Adam Flamholc hails from Sweden and will be racing this weekend and then shipping the car back to Europe. Adam run in Pro modiified and qualified for the Gator Nationals earlier this year in a different car. Power comes from the former 738 ci engine from Killer Instinct Racing Avenger.
- Mike Fratena pulled a high wheelie last night in qualifying witch smashed up the oil pan. The pan has been replaced this AM and Attliio from AA Performance is busy welding up the control arm brackets on the rear housing.
- A new look with a forward facing scoop for Enrique Perez running in the new X275 class this weekend.
- Another X275 racer is Sean Snodgrass, he lost a converter bushing in the transmission last night and were just getting it buttoned back up late this morning.
- John Alberigi lost an engine last night in his JAR sponsered Funny Car. They made an engine swap after sending rods out the bottom on the other bullet.
- Mike Freeman and crew were just finished up with scaling the car when i stopped by. They have installed Brian Goss’ TFS Hi Port engine for this race and fitted the 380 ci SBF with an F1R Procharger after running the F1C previously. The new blower should be good for about 150 more horsepower.
- Chad Opaleski brought out his in the process of paint 66 Chevelle to play int he Drag Radial class this weekend. The plan is to repaint the car red.
- Carlton Thompson brought out his Limited Street car to BMP for the first time after the new rules are in effect allowing him to come play in Florida. Thompson has been a top contender in ORSCA’s Limited Street class for several years now.
- Bill Evens runs the Top Alcohol Dragster. The class will be running the full 1/4 mile this weekend. Evens is currently second of three cars that ran last night’s session.
- Robin Samsel leads the TAD Field with a 5.41 @ 261
- Scott Brasket is leqading the Pro Mod field after two round with a 6.12 @ 229. Right behind him is “Fast” Frank Cersosimo fresh of his win at PBIR’s Citrus Nationals last weekend. Jimmy Keen put the turbocharged Mustang in third so far.
- The Automatic Pro Mod’s run the 1/8th mile ehre this weekend and Ronnie Davis put up a 4.10 @ 180 to lead the field.
- Rob Wells’ 4.30 is more than enough to lead the OL 10.5 class today. Brett Newell from Lake Wales sits second so far with a 4.81 @ 155.
- Eight cars made the call for first round of Radial Tire. Mel Nelson leads the field with a nice 4.58 @ 173 ahead of Scott Husted’s 4.71 @ 164
- Shawn McNaughton led teh 7.50Index class with a 7.504 but he broke on his burnout in the final session.
- Neil Young put his 1988 T Bird on the poll in 6.50 with a 6.50 flatin the 22 car field so far. This class is another one with rule changes allowing in back half cars for the first time this year.
- John fernandez leads the X275 field in it’s race debut at the Snowbirds this year. he is driving the Team Lopez car this weekend. Eric Kenward sits secoind in Bruce Roberts Mustang with a 5.13 @138. In fact the top three drivers are not in their own cars. Corey Bery is driving for Robert Coady and qualified with a 5.16 @ 135.
- Dave Marcus jr. took over thenumber one spot in 5.50 index.
- Aftermanaging only a 5.23 in the first session today Clint Lonon ripped off a 5.01 ! 139 to take over the top qualifier from Fernandez, who also improved to a 5.08. Mike Freeman nailed down third with a 5.12 with a 141 MPH blast good for best MPH.
- The only improvement in Radial Tire came from Chad Opaleski who improved his ET from a 4.95 to .85. He stayed in 5th position though.
- Davis kept his top qualifier position from the previous session but halvor Hansen Jr. was able to improve to 4.14 @ 177 to grab second from Ray Schuler.
- Bissassar laid down a 5.82 @ 237 to take the top position in Open Outlaw while Tom Wirth held down second with a decent 6.11 @ 224.
- Tony Pugliese jumped up to the second qualifier with a 6.28 @ 221 knocking Cersosimo back. Keen improved as well, just enough to keep his third spot with a 6.42 @ 221.
- Bill Evans strugled in the second qualifying session kicking the tires off however he improved big time to a 5.26 @ 281 in the final session to take top qualifier. Bruce Horner moved up too third with a 5.62 @ 148 on his last hit. Lucas shut down early with a 7.61 @ only 117.
- Today startedoff with a round of bracket time trials and moved to the first round of index classes. The first heads up class downtoday will be the TAD cars running the 1/4 at over 200 MPH
- Number 2 qualifier in Pro Mod Tony Pugliese got busy this morning making some changes to the 4 link settings. They were just wrapping up when I dropped by.
- Kris Thorns also made some changes thanks to Hank Hill last night they got a good clean pass in running a 4.56 @ 157. They are planning to put some more power infor first roun where Thorne will face Ray Schuler’s number qualified 68 Fulton powered Camaro.
- Teammates Ken Cruz and Chris Mendola face off in round one of Automatic Pro Mod this morning. Mendola has the ET advantage but you never know what will happen. Good luck guys.
- Pro Mod racer Mike Rein unpload this morning. Above him you can see some clouds associated with a front and a band of showers headed south. We hope they skip over but one never knows what mother nature will bring.
- The X275 class has several cars bunched up with a 5,17 or better with Clint Lonon setting low ET for round one again today with a nice 5.02 @ 139 on his single. Kenward ripped off a clean 5.08 to take down Mike Fratena’s wheelie prone Camaro and Pirez stepped it up to a 5.17 @ 136 against Snodgrass who backfired on the line. Freeman lost traction and pedaled the car several times over Steve Strobel’s Vette. round two has the potential for some very close racing for sure.
- Radial Tire saw Nelson rip off a 4.87 @ 162 despite getting the front in the air and pedaling the car twice to get it back on the ground against Dave Boger.
- Troy Pirez also got the front in the air and wound up sideways in his match with Chad Opaleski’s 66 Chevelle who will go on to round two. Husted took the win over hart with a 4.73 as Hart kicked the tires early and shut it down.
- Carlton Thompson ran a 4.71 @ 165 over Archie Marasco.
- Wells is on a roll in OL 10.5 ripping of a 4.28 @ 183 over Robert Logan’s 69 Camaro
- Jeff Ensslin took a lucky win over Richard Bligh as Bligh seems to have issues at the tree and simply drove down. Whitlow will have lane choice going against Brett Newell after getting by Adam Flamholc with a 4.69.
- Gilmore’s pairing wasnt able to make it so he took the tree and drove down easy to save parts.
- Auto Pro Mod cometitor Pat Queesenbery went left in a big way and wound up across the center line giving away an easy win after Kenny Burgess’ red light in the other lane. Davis took out Markwart with a 4.12 to 4.27. Stringer laid down a decent 4.21 over Lykins Blown Camaro. Robert Mathis ripped off a nive 4.07 to take out Hansen’s .008 light and 4.12. Mendola got the win over teammate Ken Cruz after Cruz had problems at the start.

- Radial Tire had the nitrous car of Chad Opaleski and Carlton Thompson’s turbocharged mustang in the final. Thompson was out first then Chad backfired through the scoop about 70 feet out shutting the car down allowing Thompson to cruise to victory with a 4.71 @ 163.
- Rob Wells was on a string most of the weekend running a 4.27 @ 182 in the final to take out Brett Newell’s 4.73 @ 155.

- Automatic Pro Mod pitted number one qualifier Ronnie Davis with number six Tom Stringer. Stringer went red with a -.021 as Davis went on to run a 4.11 @ 180 matching his semi final ET.

- Pro Mod put number two and four against each other with Cersosimo having lane choice with his earlier 6.18 @ 227 over top qualifier Scott Braskett. Pugliese slowed to a 6.80 and “Fast” Frank put up another 6.19 to take the win.

- Top Alcohol Dragster final was Hialeah’s own Bill Evans and Robin Samsel from Marion Indiana. Evans had low ET and top MPH going in and ran a 5.31 @ 272 as Samsel shut it down early.
