Qualifying Order After Two Rounds

The Gateway Motorsports Park here in Madison, Illinois is slowly coming alive this morning, with several hours yet before the third round of qualifying kicks off later this evening.
Kansas City-area chassis builder Larry Larson is here this weekend assisting customer Tom McGilton, who is prepping his spectacular new Larson-built 2014 ZL1 Camaro for its Drag week debut in a couple of weeks. The Camaro, a real ZL1, was purchased brand new off the dealer lot and stripped down to the bare body and crafted into a street legal work of art. With a 540 cubic inch ig block, twin-turbocharged mill under the hood, the car has the potential to go 7.50's at upwards of 190 mph. McGilton has already been 5.20s in the 1/8-mile with it.

Larson is also doing a little racing of his own, with both his famed ’66 Chevy II and Chevrolet S-10 here on the property. Larry clicked off a 4.08, 194 mph best in Outlaw Pro Mod qualifying last night to place himself eighth in the provisional order.
Texas Todd Moyer (left) is sitting fourth in Outlaw Pro Mod thus far with his Bickel-built 2015 Camaro with a 3.83-second effort. Moyer's Camaro is propelled by a monstrous 644 cubic inch big block fed by a pair of 94mm Precision turbos. Jim Whiteley (right) is using this weekend's event to test out a new automatic transmission ad torque converter combination ahead of next weekend's NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis. Whiteley's beautiful '69 Chevelle recorded a best of 6.11 at 232 mph last night, the slowest of the five cars in the field.

An impressive field of 17 cars is on hand in the 315 Radial vs. Outlaw 10.5 category, which is led by Taylor Lastor’s 4.097. Smack in the middle of the field is Radial vs The World star Jamie Hancock, who cocked a 4.53 in his big block nitrous Corvette last night. As Hancock’s crew told us, the track prep has thrown them for a bit of curveball thus far, making it difficult to get through the early part of the run. After some changes, they’ll be looking for some 4.0s later tonight.
The Nostalgia Drag Racing League, a midwest-based series, is on hand here in St. Louis as part of the Street Car Super Nationals program. The NDRL features a host of supercharged, alcohol-burning Altereds, front engine dragsters, Gassers, and other old school machines.
Arkansas native Kevin Strobel (left) is getting a handle of his all-new Outlaw 10.5 combination this weekend after redoing the chassis under his '67 Nova and adding a new Brad Anderson Hemi with a screw blower. Strobel cranked off a 4.30 last night, which placed him fifth in the provisional order. Paul Mouhayet (right), all the way from New South Wales, Australia, blazed his way to a 5.66-second, 1/4-mile testing lap yesterday prior to qualifying. He returned in the evening to card a 3.90 at 208 mph to slot in sixth among the 11 entries to take a time.
Qualifying Order After Three Rounds

Just two cars are here running in ProCharger 235 Limited, one of whom is Wyoming native Tony Fergeson and his gorgeous 1956 Chevrolet, running a 509-inch big block on a single stage of Induction Solutions nitrous oxide. Fergeson has been a best of 6.58 thus far, trailing class leader Greg Zerban’s 6.31.
The father and son team of Steven (left) and Jim Whiteley were unable to improve upon their previous best runs from Thursday, leaving them third (5.95) and fifth (6.11) respectively.

Jared Johnston, a perrneial frontrunner in the X275 ranks, powered his way to the top of the Mickey Thompson 275 Radial field in the third session of qualifying with a 4.626, edging out previous leader Taylor Lastor by a mere .001 seconds.
Radnell Reid (left) remaining atop the Outlaw Pro Mod field with his 3.64 in last night's opening rounds, but gained some company, with Doug Rister improving to a 3.70 to maintain his second position. John Stanley (center) drove his Cadillac CTS-V about 700 feet to get down the 1/8-mile, but hung with it to card a 3.75, moving him up from ninth to fifth on the sheets. And Larry Larson (right) improved by a hundredth to a 4.07 at 196 mph.

Mark Micke rolled to a side-by-side 4.20 with Kevin Strobel in the third round of 315 Radial vs. Outlaw 10.5, but we’re hearing his mount broke a pair of rods and he may be done for the weekend.
Psul Mouhayet, who set the world speed record for a doorslammer last fall in Las Vegas, is making an attempt to crack that mark here in St. Louis, despite the Outlaw Pro Mod class being contested on the 1/8-mile. After shutting it down early in the run during the third session, the Moits team came back around at the close of the round to make another hit. Despite having to pedal around 330 feet, Mouhayet still reeled off a 5.72 at a booming 269 mph.
Final Qualifying Orders
After the conclusion of heads-up qualifying, Paul Mouhayet and the Moits team rolled back around for one final attemptat the outright doorslammer speed record, and they did just hat, going 5.59 at a booming 274.33 mph. And the best part? Paul got out near the center stripe past half track and pedaled the car.
