Day two here in Orlando and another nice day for racing if a bit on the warm side. We go into round three qualifying about ten AM today kicking things off with 10.0 and 8.50 Index. The event schedule is a little different this year as there are some classes that run only to the eighth mile. Those classes will qualify and run their eliminations today while the full quarter mile classes such as Pro Street, Heavy Street ect. will finish up tomorrow. Stay tuned for our same day coverage

Mark Kyger has been out a few times now on Drag radials after taking time off from NMCA Super Street 10.5W to spend with family. So far his best is a 4.31 at 181 MPH. The combo is a twin 88 mm turbo BBC and has now run quicker on the radial than the big slick after come suspension changes and several other updates.

Danny Palm is a long time OWSN participant and is here running Outlaw 275 this weekend. The crew hails out of Palm Beach Gardens. Thanks to Danny and Chef Mean Dean for the breakfast this morning.

Rob Brazeal showed up with his former grudge and G Body shootout Malibu to run OL 275. last year he was running the Zombie Wagon but a pushrod issue has that crowd favorite at home.

Stanley Albritton Racing is set up selling parts and filling nitrous bottles this weekend with several racers in line for fills this morning.

Walter Sprout is the top qualifier in Pro Street Bike so far with a 7.03 at 209. He runs a 2006 Hayabusa with sponsor help from World Wide Bearings, NLR Systems, Woosner Pistons, JRI Shocks R&B transmission and Rock Solid Clutches. His best ET to date is a 6.97 at 217.
Ryan Thorpe has a brand new 2002 Cavalier running Outlaw 632 this weekend for it's race debut. The use a 615 cubic inch BBC from Fast Forward Race Engines with a single carb and one nitrous system and have run 5.0's so far while testing and qualifying Friday. The team stepped up to this purpose built car from a Monza they ran previously in the class. He runs a Ralph Stenger transmission, headers, windows and nitrous set up from Troy Pirez' Innovative Racecraft, MVM Carbon wheelie bars and wiring by Sparky. The team has worked on the car since January of this year getting if finished up.
Robert Fruend and crew threw their Mustang together over the last month with lots of borrowed parts and help from assorted friends. The engine is a loaner from John Townsend sporting 468 cubic inches topped with Canfield heads and a vintage 1971 1050 Holley Dominator list number 4547. Check the lucky cam button retention device. Fruend and crew are here to race and more importantly have a good time doing it.

We caught up with heavy Street racer Michael Carpenter last night while changing his converter out. He is looking for that elusive eight second pass but it wasn’t to be today as he lost a rod past the eighth mile in this morning qualifying session. We are currently on hold till the track is cleaned up before we get back into Heavy Street action.

Wayne Smozanek has switched to a Hemi from his stock block big Chevy from last years race, recently purchasing the engine from Holbrook Perfprmance’s Andy Pinckerton. They have only run the combo yesterday with the last minute install.

The crowds are showing up early today to brave the Florida sunshine lining both sides of the fence and filling up the stands.

In Pro Street Bike Doug Gall (near lane) was matched with Walter Sprout as the first pair out this morning. Neith was able to improve their time but Justin Doucet jumped ahead or Sprout with a 6.90 at 204 MPH for top qualifier.

Kevin Fiscus was on a nice run till past the 330 where the car rode the ring gear getting up on the wheelie bars and moving toward the center line. he straightened the car out without incident.
Round Three Qualifying Notes and Results

Ari Birchfield is driving for car owner Enrique Pirez. He runs a small block Chevy from SE Performance and is based out of Hollywood, Florida. He sits seventh with a nice 5.13 at 135 on a new combination.

Shawn Calabrese entered his 2001 Trans Am in Outlaw Drag Radial landing seventh after this wheels up launch in the third session while Scott Husted sits in the water box.
Richard Colas has some scary moments backing up after a fuel leak caused a fire under the car he was quick to exit and is uninjured though the initial burst sent shock waves through the crowd.

This is just some of the debris left from the earlier engine explosion in Heavy Street just to give you an idea of the type of things that can occur on the track. The little parts and pieces take quite a bit of time to clear in these type in instances.

Troy Pirez Sr. landed third in OL 632 with a 4.61 at 157 and will face off with Jimmy V in round one eliminations which we go directly into after final qualifying for the quarter mile classes.

Troy Jr has struggle some this weekend running a best of 4.17 at 137, good for tenth spot and a match up with Brian Keep’s flamed S-10 in round one.

Dennis Lugo made a nice run in the final qualifying session of Outlaw 275 putting up a 5.11 at 124 moving up to seventh. He will face Rob Brazeal’s Malibu who landed eighth.

In Outlaw Drag Radial Mark Kyger was able to make one good hit with 4.55 at 164 earning fifth spot and a match with Tony Ridenour’s Camaro.
Eighth Mile Round One Results

OL 632 top qualifier Rob Briscoe said he was going to turn it up and he did running a 4.47 at 161 taking out Ryan Thorp on his way to lowering his own record.

Mark Kyger will move to round two in Outlaw Drag Radial eliminations with a 4.57 at 155 taking out Tony Ridenour who fell off pace to a 7.21 after getting loose down track.

Josh Klugger was paired with Glen Adams this round running a 4.66 at 148 with Glen pulling the wheels hard at the hit.
Final Qualifying Quarter Mile heads Up Classes

Justin Doucet took top honors in Pro Street Bike keeping the position with his track record setting 6.90 at 204 MPH run this afternoon.

Walter Sprout dropped from number one after the first qualifying session in PSB but was bumped to third by the end of qualifying. He will face off with Jose Valencia in round one tomorrow.

Ken Quartuccio rolled in late this afternoon from Wallingford, CT and promptly jumped to number one qualifier in Heavy Street with a 7.16 at 189 MPH bumping Tony Alm to second spot.

Frank Meshaw is playing it safe in Heavy Street qualifying running a 7.32 at 156 to take third spot.

Kevin Fiscus was able to take back the Pro Mod track record after blasting a 5.89 at 248 MPH in the final session bringing the crowd to it’s feet.

George Williams pulled one out of the hat in the final session moving up to third with a nice 6.01 blast at 215 MPH. His round one opponent Anthony Prestamo crashed after getting out of the groove to the far right and the car made a hard turn to the left hitting the left side wall. Gladly he is ok though the car didn’t fare so well.
