DSR DOUBLES-UP AS SCHUMACHER, HAGAN COLLECT WINS AT READING
Don Schumacher Racing dominated the nitro classes at the NHRA Nationals in Reading, as Tony Schumacher and Matt Hagan collected Top Fuel and Funny Car honors, respectively, joining Rodger Brogdon (Pro Stock) and Eddie Krawiec (Pro Stock Motorcycle) in victory circle.

Tony Schumacher opened up a commanding lead in the Top Fuel standings on Sunday at the Maple Grove Raceway with his decisive victory, besting Brittany Force in a tire-smoking finale, 4.44 to 4.65. In Funny Car, Matt Hagan assumed the points lead from John Force, outcoasting teammate Tommy Johnson Jr. in a wild final round in Funny Car, while Rodger Brodgon scored his second career Pro Stock victory with a lap of 6.51-seconds, as opponent Allen Johnson shook the tires and lifted. And in Pro Stock Motorcycle, Eddie Krawiec closed the gap on points leader and teammate Andrew Hines with his 6.79 to 6.85 defeat of Scotty Pollacheck in the final.

NMRA World Finals
Champions were crowned and records were obliterated at the NMRA’s final hurrah of the season at the annual closer at the Beech Bend Raceway Park in Kentucky over the weekend. In Street Outlaw, John Urist added another championship to his resume, outlasting Phil Hines and Andy Manson to collect the event victory and the title, taking an easy single in the final when Manson couldn’t make the call. In Renegade, Bart Tobener put together three 8.0-second passes in eliminations, including an 8.02 in the final, to take home the hardware, while in Coyote Modified, Frank Varela clicked off an 8.30 in the money round to oust Joe Cram, adding the event title to his newly-minted champion status of the category. Steve Gifford edged out Drew Lyons in a spectacular 8.43 to 8.43 Coyote Stock final, and Teddy Weaver ran roughshod over the Pure Street class, running 9.65 in the final to best Jimmy Wilson.

Shakedown At The Summit
Neither rain nor wind throughout the weekend could stop the racers or the staff at the Summit Motorsports Park in Norwalk from pulling off the annual Shakedown at the Summit, where Jim Bell powered his way to the Outlaw Pro Mod title Sunday afternoon with a 3.87 to oust Jeff Lutz in the final. In a weekend that saw the American Outlaw 10.5 record fall at the hands of Michael Decker, it was Frank Pompilio that stood tall when all was said and done, besting Tony Basso in the final by a 4.16 to 4.30 count, while in Outlaw Limited Street, Frank Soldridge cranked out a 4.14 in the final to best Mark Woodruff’s 4.22. Also a winner on the weekend, Rich Bruder collected low elapsed time and the win in X275, running 4.61 in the finale to defeat Justin Johnson.

JEG’S Pacific SPORTSNationals
Although his opponent, Aaron Strong, went red in the Competition Eliminator final, Tony Mandella would have been hard to beat, as he cruised to victory at the JEG’S Pacific SPORTSNationals at The Strip as Las Vegas Motor Speedway on Sunday with a stellar .007 light in his C/TA pickup. In Super Stock, Leo Glasbrenner’s reaction time proved the difference at the stripe, as he and opponent Andrew Durham both ran dead-on their dials in the money round, while in Stock, Scott Burton did much the same, running right on his 10.49 dial to oust Ryan Mangus.

David Vantine and Larry McBride squared off in Top Fuel Motorcycle at the MIRock Series’ Fast by Gast Nationals in Maryland over the weekend, with Vantine taking the highly-touted match with a 5.94 in the final bout. In Pro Street, Joey Gladstone put together a series of 6.8-second runs in eliminations and parlayed it into a 6.95 ouster of Terence Angela in the final round. Ehren Litten took the Pro Street B class honors, while Doug Witt took the C class with his Suzuki, running 7.15 in the final round. Popular two-wheeled racer Rickey Gadson collected the Real Street hardware, qualifying No. 1 and punching out a 7.70 in the final to best John Dobrin.
