Yellow Bullet Nationals: Same day coverage from Cecil County. Tim Lynch marked his official return at the Yellow Bullet Nationals and did it as only Tim Lynch would — with a victory. Lynch charged from the No. 4 qualifying slot to down Billy Gordon in the final and record a new track record 4.15. Frank Soldridge overcame a strong field of Outlaw Radial contenders and edged Scott Bitzer in the final. Also, the dominant Rich Bruder overcame a number of recent rule changes to not only score the X275 victory, but set low elapsed time at a crushing 4.62.
NHRA: Same day coverage from Indianapolis. The remnants of Hurricane Isaac that pounded the Gulf region pushed their way into the Midwest over the weekend, bringing a deluge of rain over the better part of three days, forcing NHRA officials to postpone the Mac Tools U.S. Nationals a week for the second time in the last nine years. Before the rain brought an ultimate halt to the event, Spencer Massey claimed the $100,000 Top Fuel Traxxas Nitro Shootout on Saturday evening, defeating Steve Torrence in the money round. Earlier, Charlie Westcott Jr. earned the Mopar HEMI Shootout, and Bo Butner did likewise in the inaugural Factory Stock Showdown. NMRA: Phil Hines won Super Street Outlaw over newcomer Brian Green at the NMRA Ford Expo at National Trail Raceway in Columbus, Ohio over the weekend when Green was unable to make the bell for the final. Charlie Booze Jr. downed Don Bowles for the Hot Street crown, 8.58 to 8.59, and in Coyote Stock, Justin Burcham got the better of points leader Joe Charles, scoring a 10.89 to 11.05 victory. NHRA Division 6 ET: The Woodburn Dragstrip overcame 14 other teams to earn the NHRA Division 6 ET Finals team crown Sunday at the Pacific Raceways in Seattle. Super Chevy/Fun Ford: Gary Urlacher was the Pro Modified champion at the Castrol Raceway in Alberta, Canada, defeating Wayne Hofer by a 6.46 to 6.54 count. Eddie Radjo won Top Sportsman when opponent Rod Murphy Jr. — who was .001 on the tree — broke out at the stripe.
PMRA: Eric Latino ran like a bracket car at the PMRA event at the Grand Bend Motorplex, running a pair of 6.05’s in the opening two rounds before improving to a quicker 6.02 in the final as opponent Jay Santos lit the red bulb.
