The Southeast Gassers Association (SEGA) brought high drama and new storylines to Jackson Dragway as racers in multiple categories battled for wins and valuable championship points. If you missed the SEGA Hub City Hullabaloo presented by Don Baskin Truck Sales, you missed one heck of an event.
Anticipation was high in SEGA’s quickest class, A/Gas, with three different winners in the first four races of the year. Rookie standout Barry Adler entered eliminations as the top qualifier in his Iron Eagle Corvette, but his run ended in round two against veteran Alan Pittman. Pittman’s day ended in the semifinals, where he was defeated by number two qualifier Ben Christopher in his Happy Daze Chevy II.
On the opposite side of the ladder, defending champion and points leader Leslie Horne advanced to the final by defeating rival Chase Howard in round two. Horne sought his third victory of the season, while Christopher was chasing his first. In the final, Christopher powered away to victory as the sun set over Jackson, finally breaking through after seven runner-up finishes in recent appearances.
The B/Gas final was a rematch of the previous event, with points leader Ken Rainwater facing Charlie Lee. Lee qualified number one with a 5.72-second pass and advanced cleanly to the final. Rainwater raced from the number two position and eliminated championship challenger Ted McKee in the semifinals. In the final, Lee’s 5.79 was not enough to hold off Rainwater’s 5.78, giving the Renegade Chevy II driver his third win of the season and a stronger grip on the championship chase.
The C/Gas category continued to showcase strong performances from the front-runners. Points leader Jerren Perdue, driving the Stud Muffin Chevy II wagon, qualified number one and advanced to the final by defeating rival Ernie Smith. His opponent was Alfred Adams, who reached his first final of 2025 with a series of consistent wins. Adams attempted to gain an edge at the starting line, but a foul start handed the victory to Perdue, who recorded his quickest pass of the day at 6.03 seconds for his third win of the season.
Super Stock delivered a classic showdown between the top two drivers in the standings. Jerry Dean qualified number one and advanced to the final by defeating Rob Walden in the semifinals. Bryant Dalton Sr., who’s second in the points standings, reached the last round in his Ford Falcon. In the final, Dean extended his dominance with his fourth win of 2025 in his Chevy II, crediting his crew and crew chief Karen Mitchell for the consistent success.
The A/FX early funny cars produced a rematch from Brainerd, this time with a new result. Points leader Todd Wimberly qualified number one in his Southern Comfort Ford Falcon and advanced to the final. Wimberly would face number two qualifier Jeffrey Ferguson in his Wild N Wooly Chevy II. This time, Ferguson prevailed with a 5.95-second pass to Wimberly’s 6.09, earning his first SEGA A/FX win.
With multiple first-time winners, points leaders extending their advantage, and championship contenders emerging, the Jackson Dragway stop provided another chapter of tight competition across the SEGA ranks.
