NMCA: Same Day Coverage on Street Muscle. The NMCA visited the Milan Dragway in Milan, MI, one of the hotbeds of heads up doorslammer racing over the weekend. In Pro Street, Chris Rini continued his dominating form, qualifying in the top slot with a new national record and powering all the way to victory lane, defeating Noel Felton in the final. Bill Lutz and Rob Golobo faced off in an all-twin turbo Super Street final, with Lutz getting to the finish stripe first despite a timing issue. Chuck Demory edged Jeff Colletta in the Nostalgia Pro Street final with a 7.29 as Colletta slowed.
Ultimate Grudgefest: Event recap on DRAGZINE. Last weekend, the Atomic Dog Ultimate Grudgefest took place at the San Antonio Raceway in Texas. Tracy Smith won Pro Modified when his opponent and the class of the field all day, Doug Reisterer, couldn’t get his car to fire before the final. Smiley Cordero and Angel Padilla were the only cars to show for True 10.5 and the pair decided to run a best of three match, however Cordero broke after the first pass.
IHRA: The IHRA Nitro Jam Tour moved on to one of its most popular annual stops this weekend with the Maryland Nitro Jam at Maryland International Raceay in Budds Creek. On Saturday night, Del Cox returned to the winner circle in Top Fuel, besting a tire-smoking Bobby Lagana, while Bill Evans and Richard Hartman claimed wins in Pro Fuel and Prostalgia Funny Car, respectively. NHRA Division 1: Rich McPhillips and Frank Manzo claimed wins in the headliner Top Alcohol categories at the Cecil County Dragway Lucas Oil Series event a week ago before rain delayed the rest of the classes from completion. A week later, Al Ackerman won Competition Eliminator over Sal Biondo, while Lincoln Morehead and Russell Linke won Super Stock and Stock, respectively. NHRA Division 3: The Division 3 Lucas Oil series event at Beech Bend Raceway in Bowling Green, KY serves as the annual tune up for sportsman racers headed to Indianapolis. Bill Reichert won Top Alcohol Dragster at the event for the third straight year, topping a red-lighting Richard Putz in the final. In Top Alcohol Funny Car, Brett Henry won a great final round matchup on a holeshot, 5.70 to the quicker 5.69. David Billingsley earned the Competition Eliminator Wally in his L/AA Oldsmobile, besting Brian Browell in the money round. Full results are available at Drag Race Central.
NHRA Division 5: James Thompson reigned in Top Alcohol Dragster as the Division 5 competitors rolled into the midwest and Heartland Park Topeka in Kansas. Thompson overcame a big holeshot by opponent Monroe Guest for the win, 5.42 to 5.50. Jay Payne was the victor in a strange Top Alcohol Funny Car final, as Vern Moats rolled through thr staging beams and then crossed the centerline, giving the win to Payne despite not receiving an official time.
