The 43rd annual Lucas Oil NHRA Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway delivered convincing and key victories for championship hopefuls across the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series professional categories on Sunday afternoon. Doug Kalitta, Austin Prock, and Greg Anderson each turned in commanding performances to take home Wallys at the 13th stop on the 2025 tour.
Top Fuel
Doug Kalitta made history for Kalitta Motorsports with a 3.670 at 338.77 mph final-round victory over Clay Millican, marking the team’s 100th Top Fuel win and Kalitta’s second straight victory in 2025. He qualified No. 1 and ran in the 3.60s throughout the weekend, including a best of 3.665 seconds in the semifinals against Billy Torrence.
Kalitta, now with 57 career wins, last won at Brainerd two decades ago, in 2005. The victory keeps his title hopes alive heading into Indy, where he’s just six points behind Tony Stewart and 51 back from teammate Shawn Langdon. Millican, who reached the final for the first time since March, defeated Justin Ashley, Jordan Vandergriff, and Brittany Force, who set a new track speed record at 341.25 mph.
“We’re getting close to the Countdown and it’s also been a while since I’ve won here in Brainerd,” Doug Kalitta said. “I have a lot of history here when Connie [Kalitta] was driving and I was working on his car. This has always been a special place to race. Consistency is definitely the name of the game. We have a great shot at another championship.”
“This car has been a pleasure to drive. “AJ’s [crew chief Alan Johnson] got it dialed in. We’re consistent, and that’s what it takes,” Doug adds.
Funny Car
Austin Prock’s season stayed red-hot with a decisive win over J.R. Todd in the final round. Prock posted a 3.907-second run at 321.50 mph in his Cornwell Quality Tools Chevrolet SS while Todd lost traction early. The reigning champ has now tallied six wins this season and 14 in all since joining the Funny Car ranks.
With a 242-point lead over teammate Jack Beckman, Prock is set to clinch the NHRA’s inaugural regular-season title — and a $150,000 bonus — during qualifying at the U.S. Nationals in two weeks.
“This win was huge. Last year at Brainerd, I got beat on a holeshot and that’s something you never want to do. But we got it done today. I came in here with a chip on my shoulder and went out and executed our game plan,” Prock says. “In qualifying, I had a .006-second spread in reaction times and I felt good. This morning, all the stars aligned and I attacked the Christmas Tree, and had my best driving performance in either Top Fuel or Funny Car. That really makes me feel good going to Indy and into the Countdown.
“We need to get into the playoffs and execute and just keep right on going,” Prock continued. “I don’t need to approach it any differently, but I need to make sure I’m on point. I hope this isn’t just a fluke, but I’m definitely hungry right now. Last year, I got a championship, but I wanted another one as soon as the banquet was over. That’s the mindset.”
Prock averaged an .047 reaction time throughout eliminations, cutting an .043 in the final. He beat Jim Campbell, Matt Hagan, and Chad Green to notch his first Brainerd victory. Todd’s path to the final included wins over Paul Lee, Ron Capps, and Beckman. He enters Indy sixth in points.
Pro Stock
Greg Anderson was untouchable in Brainerd, defeating teammate Dallas Glenn in another all-KB Titan final round with a 6.551 at 206.86 mph in his HendrickCars.com Camaro. Anderson was low E.T. in every session, qualifying and eliminations, and reset the track record with a 6.521 against Chris Vang in round one. Wins over Eric Latino and Aaron Stanfield led to his fourth Brainerd win — and his first since 2011.
“It was not only awesome to win, but awesome to pretty much dominate the weekend. Everyone was on point. The car was perfect. The crew chiefs were perfect and I somehow didn’t screw it up. At my age, you never know when you’re going to win another one. I lost in the first round here last year and you don’t want to stumble, especially here when you’re racing in front of your buddies.”
It was Anderson’s fifth win of the season and the 111th of his career. He also swept the weekend’s specialty races: Friday’s “Battle for the Rebel Axe” and Saturday’s Mission #2Fast2Tasty Challenge.
Glenn reached his ninth final in 11 events with wins over Fernando Cuadra Jr., Jeg Coughlin Jr., and Erica Enders. He holds a narrow nine-point edge over Anderson heading into Indy, where points are scored at one and a half.
With the Countdown to the Championship looming and the sport’s most prestigious race on deck, the battle lines in each of the pro categories are drawn. All three winners in Brainerd are surging at the right time. The NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series returns to action Aug. 27-Sept. 1 with the 71st annual Cornwell Quality Tools NHRA U.S. Nationals at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park.
