SEMA 2011: New Single, Twin-Disc Camaro, Mustang Clutches From ACT

Unlike your typical motorist, automotive enthusiasts live for the thrill. And for those who own and drive vehicles equipped with manual transmissions, experiencing the thrill also often means experiencing the glorious expiration of the factory clutch at some point in time. For those with a lead foot, something beyond what the factory provides isn’t just a luxury, but a virtual necessity. And thanks to manufacturers like Advanced Clutch Technology, which produces clutches and flywheels for a vast array of high performance vehicles, such an upgrade is but a call away.

With these clutches, you’re getting a true street high performance product that is 100% ACT from the ground-up. These aren’t remanufactured OEM clutches that we just ship back out.

Featured in the ACT booth here at the SEMA Show are the latest evolutions of the single and twin-disc clutches for the 2011 and later Ford Mustang GT and 1997-2010 C5/C6 Corvettes.

Both of these new kits, which carry many of the very same features, sport ACT’s CNC-machined Heavy Duty pressure plates that have a special, single diaphragm design to increase clamp load, reduce deflection, and maximize gthe life of the clutch. Customers then have the option of selecting from ACT’s Modified, Performance, or Rigid Street Discs. These feature premium friction material that makes for greater heat tolerance and and faster recovery from overheating.

The Corvette/Camaro clutch is rated for 745 ft-lbs of torque, while the twin-disc model rates from 875 on up to more than 1,400 ft-lbs. These are a heavy duty configuration with factory-like engagement and provide a much snappier throttle response. The 2011+ Mustang part meanwhile, uses a factory cover design with a laser cut diaphragm. Everything internally is zero balanced.

“With these clutches, you’re getting a true street high performance product that is 100% ACT from the ground-up. These aren’t remanufactured OEM clutches that we just ship back out,” says ACT’s Michael Hallmark.

ACT's new Camaro and Mustang single and twin-disc clutches are 100% aftermarket high performance street products. Along with a Heavy Duty Pressure Plate, customers can choose from Modified, Performance, or Rigid Street Discs for their application and needs.
