From late model muscle cars and classic American iron to front wheel drive conversions and pickup trucks, Stock and Super Stock Eliminator has practically showcase it all at some time or another over the years, but to our knowledge, neither class has ever seen Dodge’s famed Viper sports car. Until now, anyway.

Swedish drag racer Jan Phersson, part of the fledgling Swedish Stock and Super Stock racing scene, is busily preparing a new Viper to compete in the Super Stock/D category in his native country, to be powered by a stock, Generation II V10 engine rated at 425 horsepower. For comparisons sake, the Generation IV V10 engine being utilized in the new DragPak Challengers rates at 450 horsepower. The V10 powerplant is backed by a Youngblood clutch mated to a Jerico four-speed transmission.

Phersson and the team at the Viper Shop in Sweden opted for the Generation II Viper cylinder heads for this build rather than the late model Hemi parts, and without comparable data to draw from, set out on their own to work and rework the heads to find the horsepower they knew was hidden within. Now, says Phersson, they’ve managed to find comparable power numbers to other engine makes and models in the Super Stock A, B, and C classes from their 502 cubic inch mill.

Said Phersson, “the Viper Generation II cylinder heads were a big challenge, but we have done what’s possible with reasonable money.”

According to Phersson, the Swedish Stock & Super Stock Association is expected to also see the debut of 6-10 new cars in 2012, including DragPak Challengers of the V8 and V10 varieties and some 2010-12 Ford Mustang Cobra Jets.
