When it comes to component selections, few parts can make or break a combination like the torque converter. Get the right converter and you can go faster with less power and strain on your powerplant. Choose the wrong one and you can have the most powerful engine in the class and beat it to death and not run the numbers it takes to win. Neal Chance Racing Converters has a stellar track record when it comes to providing racers with the perfect converter, and that was as evident as ever at this weekend’s PDRA season opener in Tulsa.
NCRC customer Jason Scruggs opened the weekend with a stunning 3.49, becoming just the second doorslammer in history to eclipse the 3.50 barrier. Not to be outdone, Brandon Snider blasted to an insane 3.48 ET in his sinister black Q80 Camaro, which he later backed up with a 3.51 to set the official PDRA Pro Extreme national record. Said Snider of the record run, “I knew it was a fast one but it could’ve been even a little faster if it hadn’t hiked the wheels up so high in the first half.”
In the Pro Nitrous ranks, Chance customers Tommy Franklin and Steve “Stevie Fast” Jackson wowed the crowd with the first ever side-by-side 3.60 pass during qualifying Friday night. Jackson laid down a solid 3.69 at 203 mph which placed him at No. 3 in qualifying. Alongside Jackson, Tommy Franklin blasted to the quickest Pro Nitrous pass in history with his 3.68, also at 203 mph which also put him atop the qualifying sheet.
“The track was tight and the weather came to us,” said Franklin. “We really didn’t do anything different for that round, everything just came to us and it worked out in our favor – but just barely.”
These record runs and personal bests are only possible with a great team turning wrenches and clicking away at the laptops and each of the components does its job flawlessly, including the torque converter! Thanks to the brilliant folks at Neal Chance Racing Converters, these teams are able to constantly push the envelope and rip off these insane performances.
