It’s been no secret over the last several months that Street Outlaws cast member Chuck Seitsinger has been converting his famed “Death Trap” Ford Mustang into a Big Tire car. Seitsinger, whose struggles to compete on OKC’s Top 10 list with his ill-tempered small tire combination have been well documented on the Discovery Channel, decided earlier this year that he needed to make some changes. Of course, he decision couldn’t come at a better time, as those in OKC and around the country have stepped up their programs considerably in the last year, beefing up their existing cars or building new, all of which has made street and no prep racing more competitive than ever imagined.
After months of work behind the scenes, Seitsinger recently put the final touches — minus paint — on the Death Trap, and to say the car is hardly recognizable would be an understatement. The 1989 model Mustang was gone over from nose to tail, lightened up with composites and the rear suspension and chassis re-worked to fit a beefy set of Mickey Thompson slicks. The twin turbo engine combination remains, but it’s now surrounded by a car far more capable of blasting its way down the road.
Chuck put some shakedown runs on the car at Thunder Valley over the weekend, tripping a 1.06 60-foot time and a couple of full 1/8-mile hits that left him proclaiming via social media “lots more tweaking to do, but this thing is gonna’ be one bad bitch!”
Chuck and the Death Trap 2.0, as it’s been coined, are expected to be a part of this weekend’s highly-anticipated Outlaw Armageddon No Prep event at Thunder Valley in the Big Tire class, where he’ll be part of a field of nearly 100 of the country’s baddest racers. Keep an eye out for not only his big unveiling this weekend, but for a feature story on the build right here on Dragzine in the coming weeks.
