In the eyes of many, the late 1960’s represented the golden age of drag racing — the front engine ‘slingshot’ dragsters were reaching their pinnacle, the Funny Car eliminator was coming of age, and Detroit was churning out muscle cars left and right to pursue the highly competitive factory wars in Stock and Super Stock. And there was no greater place to see it all on display then at Indy.
The 1968 and ’69 U.S. Nationals (shown in reverse order) have been combined here for nearly two hours of incredible, historic video, featuring all the top names and iconic machines of the era: Ronnie Sox, Leonard Hughes, Bruce Larson, Don Prudhomme, Danny Ongais, the “Pure Hell”, “Ohio George” Montgomery, and countless others.
Kick back as we count down the days until the 63rd U.S. Nationals later this week and enjoy this amazing time capsule of NHRA history!
