Andy Bohl Is Having A Career Year In TAFC With Howards Cams Onboard

Andy Bohl is having a career year in the NHRA’s Top Alcohol Funny Car (TAFC) class in 2017, as over the course of the season, Bohl has racked up several wins at national events across the country. Bohl has been able to stay consistent on the track with his Funny Car that uses parts and technical advice from Howards Cams.

Most racers dream of just making a final round appearance at any NHRA national event, but Bohl has put his Murf McKinney-built flopper into three different finals and picked up the win at each. So far in 2017 Bohl has been the last man standing at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals at Summit Motorsports Park and the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway. Besides those two wins, Bohl also was victories at the JEGS All-Star race held at Route 66 Raceway where he defeated the best TAFC racers in the country.

The 521 cubic-inch Hemi that lives under the Camaro body Bohl drives uses an Alan Johnson block, Total Flow heads, and a PSI screw blower to make its high-revving power. Inside the engine is a special-grind camshaft from Howards along with their lifters as the backbone of the valvetrain. This engine propelled Bohl to a new personal best of 5.43 at over 273 mph in the quarter-mile this season.

According to Bohl, Howards has made performing at such a high level in the TAFC division a little bit easier this season.

“Howards supplies me with product that I need to perform so well. They provide a lot of technical support for the cams and lifters that we run in the car that has helped us a lot in the development of our program. I’ve been with them over eight years and appreciate their assistance. The support they provide customers is just outstanding and makes them great to deal with.”
