Kyle Buckmaster has been around the small-tire racing game for a long time; whether it was on the street or in the No Prep world, he’s been there. With more opportunities to make big money in No Prep racing, Buckmaster has spent more of his time at the track and wheeling a little truck known as “The Luv”. At the upcoming Bounty Hunters III event at San Antonio Raceway, Buckmaster plans on showing the small-tire world why they should fear the tiny truck from Texas.

For many years the streets were Buckmaster’s home for racing — it didn’t matter when or where, he was ready to get in on the action. Even before he started driving the Luv, Buckmaster was making passes against the stars of Street Outlaws in their early days on the streets of OKC. Originally, Buckmaster drove the Luv on the street for owner Greg Hall, but running from the cops lost its fun so they brought the truck to the No Prep racing world.

The 1976 truck that Buckmaster pilots is powered by a Morgan and Son Racing Engines small block that has over 400 cubic-inches of displacement. A single direct port system of Nitrous Express giggle juice provides the extra rip the engine needs, while a power glide transmission and PTC torque converter help to put the power down. The ladder bar suspension in the rear works with a set of Viking Performance shocks to make sure the Luv stays planted on the tricky No Prep racing surfaces it encounters.

Buckmaster is looking forward to the Bounty Hunters III event because it provides a great racing environment for his team.

“The Bounty Hunters staff always takes care of us at this event and run a good show. The payouts are always there as promised and that’s nice. We also do really well at San Antonio Raceway. The last time we were there we went to the final three in the truck class and went deep in the small-tire class. We’ve brought home money every time we go there and have good luck,” Buckmaster says.

Since Bounty Hunters is known for drawing the best in No Prep racing, Buckmaster knows going rounds won’t be easy at all. Winning this event will take more than a fast hot rod, it will take a keen understanding of how to navigate the San Antonio Raceway surface. “With the level of competition that will be there it’s going to take fast and consistent A to B passes to win. The track can be very tricky even for the best in No Prep racing so you have to be ready,” Buckmaster explains.

Buckmaster knows that having a solid game plan is critical to going rounds at Bounty Hunters and he’s ready to hit the water box firing on all cylinders.

“With all the fast cars that are going to be there, I’m just really going to work the tree hard. By cutting good lights all the time it will force the faster cars to really get after it and chase me down, and that will cause them to make mistakes. We also plan on using our Nitrous Express nitrous controller to its fullest ability, that helps to make the best A to B passes and we’re going to take advantage of that,” Buckmaster says.
