Thanks to the all-out assault on each and every one of the senses that drag racing delivers upon the human body, there’s really no such thing as a bad vantage point at a drag race. Well, that is unless you’re stuck in the restroom line, peering through a hole in the fence from the street, or seated behind Yao Ming and Shaquille O’Neal in the grandstands.
But there certainly are vantage points that are far superior to others, and one of the crewmembers for NHRA Division 5 Top Alcohol Funny Car racer Kris Hool gave us a perspective that you’re only going to see as, well, a crewman.
With GoPro’s latest Hero2 camera strapped presumably to his forehead, this crewman takes us through the entire process of a qualifying lap while competing at the Auto Club NHRA Finals in Pomona, Calif. last month.
And we’re not talking just standing behind the car and viewing the run, but towing the K&K Motorsports flopper around the corner, firing the car, performing the burnout and then blasting down Wally Parks Boulevard. All of the motions from the head-mounted camera might give you a bit of a headache, but this is certainly worth a watch to witness a view most will never get the chance to experience.
