Hughes Performance has been in the industry for more than 40 years, building some of the best transmissions and torque converters since 1971. They are very involved in the motorsports scene and are constantly looking to make a better, more reliable product.
At this years 2018 PRI Show, we stopped by the booth to see what the crew has been working on. Pete Nichols gave us some insight on its new Pro SX series converter. “Our new Pro SX series converter uses fabricated-steel stator technology. It has unparalleled acceleration rates for the first half of the track and is one of the most efficient converters on the market.” According to Nichols, this technology crosses over not only to the Powerglide and Turbo series transmissions, but also the 4L60, 4L80, 6L80, and the 8L90.
Traditionally, Hughes utilized mainly aluminum stators and heavy-investment cast stators. According to Nichols, they have been very successful. However, he says, “This new fabricated-steel stator technology opens up a whole new world for us, specifically for tailoring stator technology to each customer-specific application.”
With more than 1,000 stator options, it’s best to get in contact with the professionals at Hughes before ordering. They offer an online contact form, a comprehensive online tech card you can fill out if you know all of your details, or you can give them a call.
