NBS is well known locally for meticulous fabrication, making things fit seamlessly while incorporating aftermarket parts into the factory design.
This sweet 4th gen Pontiac Firebird is under construction at NBS Race Cars in Pinellas Park, Florida, and is an addition to a long line of traditional Pontiac-powered street machines for owner Alex Brooks. The car features a chrome moly cage built to 8.50 spec, full MSD Digital 7 ignition, custom fitted Racepak dash and a reverse pattern TH350 transmission with a Turbo Action shifter. Underneath you will find a complete stock suspension set up from BMR Fabrication to help plant the Mickey Thompson 315/60 Drag Radials.
The 505 ci. engine was machined at Nelson Competition Inc. and assembled by Bryan Altizer at Jimmy Cope Race Cars. An Indian Adventures block is filled with fully balanced internals and topped off with some interesting cylinder heads from Roland Racing. The CV-1 heads were designed via 3-D computer modeling and CAD CAM software, based on the Ford Cleveland canted valve heads. The intake runners feature no pushrod pinch, as found in the traditional Pontiac design while also eliminating the need for off set rockers and their accompanying power robbing valve train design. The heads also have a figure eight chamber design incorporating dual quench technology for improved efficiency.
An intake manifold from Roland Racing is also necessary to mate up with the different runner placement – this one is a 4500 flange version. Over 700 horsepower should have no problem pushing the car into the nine second zone when it’s all wrapped up. Expect a full report when this beast hits the track.

A Barry Grant Demon carb feeds premium pump fuel to the 11:1 compression 505 ci. engine. Inside spins a billet crank and H beam rods for 600 ft lbs. of torque and over 700 horsepower. A splash of race fuel should be all that's needed at the track.
