Things have been relatively quiet on the Outlaw 10.5 home-front since last fall, but the peace and tranquillity was rudely interrupted on Tuesday by the screw-blown Hemi between the framerails of the Pontiac GTO owned by Gil Mobley and driven by Richard Sexton.
During a test session conducted by the Mobley team at the always lightning-quick Maryland International Raceway, Sexton hustled his way to the quickest Outlaw 10.5 pass ever and the first in the 4.0’s, running an unreal 4.071 at 188.49 miles per hour. The previous mark, also recorded during testing last fall, was the 4.11 set by Jason Enos in his Proline-powered ’67 Mustang.
During the same test, Chuck Ulsch laid down a new personal best in Mobley’s ADRL Extreme 10.5 Camaro at 3.81-seconds and 204 miles per hour, but even that incredible performance was understandably overshadowed by his teammates record-shattering pass.
Incrementals on the run were:
1.078
2.763
4.071
188.49
Perennial Outlaw 10.5 favorite and former record holder Tim Lynch has been out of commission since last fall when his Corvette was heavily damaged in a testing incident prior to the Shakedown at E’Town. With Lynch’s return on the horizon and the Mobley crew from “Team North” dusting off the snow and laying down early numbers like this, no doubt things are going to get thick this season in one of drag racing’s most exciting categories. The race to the threes is on!
