Alan Felts And His ProTorque-Equipped Mustang Ready For Title Repeat

If you’re going to win in heads-up racing, you’d better be ready to put the time in to improve your program every time you unload your race car. NMCA Street Outlaw and X275 racer Alan Felts had always been a threat to win, but in 2021 he made some big changes that resulted in an NMCA world championship. Now it’s a new year, and Felts is ready to defend his title and win even more races.

The 2021 season didn’t start out on a high note for Felts due to numerous problems during testing. Felts took his 1991 Ford Mustang GT to the NMCA Muscle Car Madness event and was finally able to figure out the issues that were plaguing the car. The changes that Felts made worked so well he was able to qualify number one and win the event.

“We traveled to several different races where we qualified number one picked up the win, too. The Magic 8 was a tough event to even qualify for, but we made the field and ended up in the semi-final round. No Mercy was huge for us too, we went to the finals there and were runner-up, that’s a big feat for a team like ours,” Felts explains.

Before any dust could settle on his Mustang, and the 440 cubic-inch small-block Ford from Bennett Racing could even cool down Felts got to work preparing for 2022. According to Felts, the changes he made are already showing some promise, and he’s ready to see what they do on the track.

“Companies like ProTorque have really stepped up and helped us move our racing program forward. Joe and his team made sure our EV 1 torque converter was dialed in to work with our engine package. I really think that played a big role in our success last year, and Pro Torque has been right there working through the updates we’ve made going into 2022,” Felts says.

Alan Felts has put a lot of hard work into his racing program and it showed in 2021. X275 is one of the toughest classes in small tire racing and Felts has launched himself into the top tier of racers who compete in this class.
